CPJ HOF Recognition 10/28

The Guv ought to declare CPJ DAY for the state in conjunction (dream on)! You don't know what you had 'til you lose it.

I know. That was a wonderful time to be a Tech fan. Ranked in the top 10, UGA was struggling that year. We were the talk of the state going into that years COFH and then..... The NCAA investigation came down the week of COFH and CPJ later said that our guys minds were preoccupied with the investigation. I've often wondered what would have happened if we pull that win off? I could see us winning three in a row from 08-10 especially if Nesbitt doesn't get injured at VT in 2010. Richt gets let go probably in 2010 and Kirby probably doesn't get the UGAg job then. They probably end up with Muschamp, and CPJ probably goes like 8-2 against them.
Don’t forget the NCAA investigator was a former UNC football player. Talk about a conflict of interest.

And played during the scam their AA was running. Yet, he wanted to "make an example" out of our supposed intransigence.

2009 UGA game was the most important GT football game in a long time. Probably as important as one of the FSU games in late 90s. It could’ve shaped the entire perception of the state, fanbase, and team in terms of the program. A huge missed opportunity.

Don't know what PJ's feelings toward UNC were (I get the feeling if they ever called him to interview for the job, he'd have jumped on it). I think he was more a NC State guy, since Tom Burleson, the center on their 74 NCAA basketball title team, was from his neck of the woods.
I do know some NC State boosters wanted him to be their coach as they were showing O'Cain (IIRC) the door - and PJ would have taken the job if interviewed and offered. But the real money went behind Amato, so they got Chucky.

If - and it's a big if - Georgia had hired Erk with Dooley retiring instead of hiring Goff, Erk was going to get Paul to be his OC in Athens. But Erk was thinking retirement anyway and turned them down. Then they said they never offered Erk the job. I had to be the one to tell the old man Georgia said they never offered him the job in the first place. He. Was. PISSED.
And I've never forgiven Georgia for that, either. Sure, there's lots of reasons to hate Georgia. We could fill a full message board with them. But they lied to Erk. And I knew Erk from my Statesboro days. Never knew him as a Dwag. Only knew him as an Eagle. And only think of him that way too. Besides, Erk went out with a 15-0 record in his final season. I think that was his own middle finger to Georgia.

Don't think PJ didn't have animosity toward Georgia as the Tech coach. Standing with him one day at an event that he and Richt and a bunch of other coaches were at and Richt was swarmed with media. PJ? No.
PJ looks at me and goes, "you don't think there's a (bleeping) bias in this state?" Me: "Never said there wasn't, man."

There needs to be a meet and greet with alcohol with PJ where he is assured everything he says will be off the record. Think that won't get fun?

I will always have a special place in my heart for CPJ, damn shame that a vocal segment of our fan base blasted the spread option even though it gave us a competitive advantage.
Saluting the only coach still living who was able to make something of our football program. It is simply amazing that he took Georgia Tech to 2 Orange Bowls during his time on the FLATS! Sure would give anything to see an A back cut for 20 yards up field right about now. Our program has been set so far back it may take ten years to go to a bowl game!

It's still so beautiful to watch.

Ross and O'Leary are both still alive, but I agree with your overall point.
