Death knell rings loudly now for FOCers

We don't hate all things Tech foggy. BDG hit it on the head. Tech fans are used to this program going 6-5 7-4. CG is a 6-5 7-4 coach in my opinion. It seems like this guy is trying to run this program like an NFL team. And you can't do that at this level. I hope I'm wrong but it seems to me that he's back in his home state and he has a head coaching job at a program that is used to saying it's ok to play .500 ball.(Sorry guys, but I agree with BDG on that one) But there are a lot of us Tech fans who are saying, "Hey, we want better for our program. We want to have the tradition of being a top 25 team year-in and year-out, not every couple of years-or-so. And we can do that. Hotlanta alone is a great lure for these kids. Plus we have one of the best state-of-the-art training facilities in the nation and not to mention where else can you get a better education than at Tech. We, as Tech fans, want to see our programs be able to compete with ANY team in country. Look at the bball team. PH is getting us there. I think this year will be close to .500 but he went out there during the offseason and landed one of the top bball players in the country and with no seniors will have a top 10 team for sure next year! Does CG have that capability. I don't think so. I think as long as he is around then 6 or 7 wins is as good as it gets for us. I hope I'm wrong!

GMC you're right. The players' performance is the direct result of the coaches performance.

I grew to up during the Bobby Dodd era and learned what a well coached (even if undermanned) team looks like. CG may not be the man for this school, but you can teach just so much then it becomes the responsibility of those on the field to execute. AJ is not a QB and from the looks of it he will never be a QB at least at D1 level. He may be the nicest guy at Tech but you do not destroy the entire team for 1 person. So lets stop all the negatives and get on with the program and if CG doesn't execute then we send him back to Dallas, Miami or where ever he wants to go.

Good post, oldfoggy.
Some guys think coaches are magicians. They aren't. The good ones take advantage of the talent their players have, but that talent level is very definitely a limiting factor.
Richt had a very average year last year, about what is reasonable to expect for a guy's first year in a program. This year, at THIS point, he is suddenly a genius. The biggest reason he is a genius is that he's got an all-senior O-line that he didn't even recruit. He's got loads of players.

CG doesn't have a D1 quarterback. By yesterday, he didn't have a D1 running game. It's hard to take advantage of talent that's not there.

On defense, we do have some talent (though we don't seem to have turnover-making talent) and the coaches have taken advantage of the talent they have.

Belly and OldFoggy still blaming the players. Sorry guys I can't agree with that attitude. Whose job is it to train and teach the players? Whose job is it to motivate the players? Who chooses which players participate?

These young men are giving their hearts and souls to GT but with no leadership, no training, no one to motivate them and no one to provide discipline on the team. Keep blaming the players and watch the million dollar adults destroy our school.

belly, good grief..."CG doesn't have a D-1 QB"!!??

You might want to check in with Kim King & John Cooper about their estimation of Bilbo. As for his errors(just like the one's Joe had his first YEAR!), if Bilbo still has them, like our current starter, SEVERAL games later, then I would agree with your curious at best statement. THWG

No I am not blaming the players! I am only saying that AJ does not execute, that's his responsibility and BOB's. After seeing the LSU- Tech game in the Peach Bowl I was able to see that BOB did not and may never have the ability to call plays and teach at the D1 level. Then it falls on the shoulders of CG to correct the problem and AJ must step up and be the man, he was not benched at Tenn. for no reason. Maybe Fulmer saw things with AJ that were not seen by our present staff. But and that a big but with no other proven or experienced QB it falls on AJ's shoulders to provide the on field leadership and stop the stupid mistakes. After all isn't 12 games as the starter enough experience to at least stop some of the same mistakes game, after game, after game? Where was BOB during all this time is he the QB coach?

oldfoggy, I agree with everything you just said. My point is who kept putting Suggs on the field? Shouldn't that be the person to shoulder the blame?

In many ways I admire AJ for continually going out and playing knowing that the odds were against him, the play calling was disgusting and he had no support from the coaches. He managed to keep his composure through all of this.

AJ has been put out to dry. Even with his limited abilities well documented, BO'B and Gailey still call the plays that AJ can't pull off. I know we have lost more than our share of RB's, but we still had a couple. What's wrong with grinding it out with a run oriented gameplan? Poor field conditions, suspect QB play, average oppoment, above average defense....why not just run the ball and eat clock? It works for less-talented Wake.

Wake would have beaten the helle out of Fresno....just like they did Oregon.

And why would they have done that????

Because Wake is well-coached and we are not.

A lesson I should have learned from Bill Clinton.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">"Coaches are perfect"? Who said that? I said players play the game.

When Tony Hollings was LEADING THE NATION IN RUSHING, how many times did you guys get on here and praise CG for that? Why not? He was head coach and he had the nation's leading rusher; according to your theory of football, it's all on the coaches, so why wasn't CG a genius?

Actually, it was Richard Nixon who never took the blame for anything.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">WOW, Ghost! Why aren't YOU head coach somewhere? A running game without RBs! Sheer genius!

belly, seriously just how big of a talent gap do you believe exist between GT and MD, and what do you base your opinion on? Be sure and include how their Jrs. & Srs. were playing not long ago. With talent somewhat better than ours they just ran Tenn out of the Dome. THWG

Hey bellyache, Ace averaged 13 yards a carry yesterday and Smith averaged 5 yards per carry. Not bad for NO RB's, wouldn't you say?

I skipped the above posts because I'm not sure what an "FOCer" is exactly, tho I'm sure it's something to do with supporting Coach Chan. Someone please define?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">A huge gap at QB. Their jrs and srs were freshmen and sophomores "not long ago". Our team is largely freshmen and sophomores right now.

NCState is currently running ND out of the stadium. We beat State, ND beat MD. What's your point?

I base all this on watching football games.

Yeah, we're way deep at running back. I don't know why CG didn't make ALL the WRs into RBs.

We have two Freshman RBs.

Wow, let's be Wake Forest! That is just a great idea!
