Dinich provides an answer to the seemingly endless questions on StingTalk about what happens if theres a 3-way tie in the ACC Coastal. unfortunately, she just basically copy-and-pasted the rules from the ACC website...

For those of you saying that it will go to the team with the highest BCS ranking, that's not true. If we beat FSU and Miami loses to Clemson (who we beat, in other words a common Atlantic opponent), and we beat VT, then we will go.

1. Combined Records (assuming theres a 10-2 tie, on to #2)
2. Record in the Coastal (GT MUST beat VT for this one, then all 3 have 1 loss)
3. Head-to-head against the best in the league (redundant... on to #4)
4. Record vs. common Atlantic teams (We beat Clemson, but lost to FSU. Miami must lose to Clemson... then we're all tied, since VT has no common Atlantic opponent)
5. Overall record vs. Atlantic teams (any Atlantic team)
6. If we are all tied up in this, and if Miami and VT don't climb any higher than where they are as of Sunday, we are all 3 tied because our highest positions are all w/in 5 slots of eachother (GT #14, UM #9, VT #5)
7. Flip a coin/ draw straws.

Basically Clemson MUST beat Miami, GT MUST beat VT, and then we'll be fine... sort of...

At least the ACC improved the Big XII's BCS rule. That makes sense.

Unfortunately, with VT and Miami being so much higher than us now and our only games against ranked teams are VT and (previously) ugag, I can't see us winning a BCS rankings battle unless we go on a tear and start destroying people.

Looks like we probably need to win out and have Miami lose one.

miami needs to lose to Clemson... that would help out A LOT... vs. Clemson and @ UNC are their toughest games... who knows in the ACC. I'm sure nobody expected a loss at home to UVA last year, and then nobody expected Maryland to beat Clemson in Death Valley either... S*** happens in the ACC... lets just hope to keep it away from us this year...

God, I will rue the day that Miami wins the ACC again. OMG we will hear it then. I hope they get just as high as they did against VT.

Although, Jacory says the only thing the team is allowed to watch is Spongebob...soo....I am don't know about our chances.

Re: Dinich on the 3-Way

Take'em 1 game at a time. It's a long season, and upsets WILL happen. We just need to focus on fixing our weak spots, not letting up on our strengths, and not letting upsets happen to us... a-la vandy, duke, etc, but also fsu... 1 game at a time.

PS - minus 10 points for lack of comic foresight to remove the word 'Tiebreaker' from the title of this thread

This is not right. If Miami loses to Clemson, we beat VT and do not lose any other ACC games, we win the Coastal due to a tiebreaker with VT; Miami would be irrelevant because they would have 2 ACC loses (VT and Clemson).

If we beat VT, VT drops another game, Miami loses to Clemson AND we lose another ACC game (e.g., Wake or FSU most likely), then I would be curious to see who would win the tiebreak.

You seem to be forgetting that Miami already has one ACC loss. You can't be tied with a 1 loss team if you have 2.

Every GT blog does this every year. Just win the damn games & sort out the tiebreaker at the end.

It never ceases to amaze me the elaborate schemes some folks conjure up in their minds to get us to the promised land. Let's win a few games first before we start worrying about winning titles.

Damn, sometime I swear we sound like Mutt fans trying to figure out how to win the SECC without beating UF.
