DMO

Back in March of this year i had a speaking engagement in Noblesville Indiana for an Insurance Company/Marketing Company. My partners and I were the platform speakers. Ironically enough the opener for our group was Derrick Moore. He was paid to talk about “Systems and Processes” of successful people and organizations. As a lifelong 38 year GT hardcore fan i was in disbelief that one of the greatest motivational speakers i ever heard was opening for me and my partners (who had zero clue who he was). Derrick told some unbelievable Calvin Johnson stories as a Freshmen and why he knew he would be a HOF one day in the NFL. Anyways after his speech and before we were to take the stage I had an opportunity to speak to him for no less than 10 mins and discuss all things Ga Tech. I won’t share everything we discussed out of respect to the man but i will share this:
#1 He truly loves Ga Tech and it pained him to see the dilapidated state of the football program
#2 It was NOT his decision to leave Ga Tech and would’ve stayed if the opportunity presented himself.
#3 He loved CPJ beyond belief as a football coach but more importantly as a man and that rubbed the clown the wrong way
#4 His daughter is an up and coming Movie producer who lives in Atlanta and i believe his son does to so Atlanta will always be home.
#5 As Player personal director at USC-East he is vital in helping create a strong family culture the moment those kids step on campus. I also coach football at Middle school level and my Qbs older brother was a stud lineman at Walton High School and signed with Gamecocks and said that DMO becomes a father figure instantaneously to all the players. This coming from a white kid from East Cobb who has a strong family environment as it is. Imagine the ones that don’t.

Anyways i could go on and on but i will say this. If Ga Tech needs the money to get this guy start a “Go Fund me” and i will contribute heavy dollars. If Key wants to change the culture of the clown the first phone call he needs to make is to Derrick Moore. Bring the guy back home and everyone including DMO will be ecstatic.

This would get funded in hours.

This is the kind of öööö I needed to hear today to get me fired up. Good on you, and what a good man Derrick Moore is.

Damn, that's a reason to fire with cause if I've ever seen one. f*** g*****

Given DMO’s incredible character, I don’t see him leaving voluntarily for another opportunity. He’s the father figure and a good father wouldn’t do that.

Being a father figure isn't the same as being a father when it's part of your job though.

I don't think he would abandon his players before a huge game or anything slimy like that, but I doubt anyone involved feels that DMO has made a lifetime committment to work at USCe. If he wants to leave he'll be able to without it compromising his character or people's opinions of him.

DMo is a proud Albany, Ga native. I‘ve heard him speak many times down here and have spoken to him several times. Everything posted above is accurate. He is a father to many who had weak fathers growing up. I know personally that we can all thank DMo for our #1 LB being at GT for 5 years. I won’t say anymore. If we can get him back at some point it would be a huge win. And I’d like to grab some more ballers from Thomasville, Valdosta, and Moultrie but that’s just me.

Why would he leave SEC for ACC? I get the family ties but come on, that isn't happening, at least not anytime soon.
The isn't a SEC/ACC issue. If he loves Tech, and his son and daughter are here, he might listen if Tech puts together a competitive package.

As I understand it, and has been explained on this board before, DMo was not technically an employee of the GTAA, but was a chaplain provided by Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Previous coaches contributed financial to FCA, but Collins couldn’t be bothered and wouldn’t. Then he wouldn’t let DMo do any speaking to the team, at least not how he used to do it. So DMo left and took an actual staff position in Columbia, and is doing fantastic. Happy for him!
Letting him go is indeed a great failure not just of Collins and the football team, but the entire AA. Synjyn nailed it.
I thought PJ got him on the payroll. But yeah, clown got rid of him.

Sorry, I totally mis read your comment. I thought you meant why would beamer go to VT over SC, not DMo.

Re: Beamer, Maybe he goes a good job at S. Carolina but never quite jumps over UGA, Fla and/or UT after 3 or 4 more years. Then VT comes calling with a big offer to be the savior, after another coach fails.

We'll see. Be hard to turn down SEC money.

I could be wrong and it could be the Tennessee part of me still salty about the loss. But I just don't see Beamer succeeding there long term. I think they caught lightning in a bottle these past two weeks with UT (it was clearly documented something happened that divided the team, they showed up unprepared and without their #1 defensive player who was left at home healthy; UT still scored almost 40 points on his defense), then that success carried them over to the Clemson game. They are losing Rattler who could be hard to replace. Georgia and UT are still bringing in top recruiting classes, even UF has a top 10 class coming. They lost to Mizzou somehow this year. SEC is not yet doing away with divisions so the next 3-4 years will be tough and honestly I think life without divisions gets tougher for SC because they probably won't get Vandy and Mizzou every year while only seeing bama and LSU every 6 years.

That's the beauty of college football, anyone can win a game any day. But I definitely think winning at VT is easier than winning at SCar. Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, they have had big name coaches with busts of success but nothing sustainable. In the ACC I think it's been shown you can compete with the FSU's, Miami's and Clemson's then you can have success. A 12 team playoff is going to be much easier to reach from VT than SCar IMO.

Since you are our Tennessee expert what is the story about their South Carolina game? I heard from one of those talking head stations that a player on the defense got into a fight with a player on the offense. The defense player wasn’t allowed to make the trip. The rest of the Tennessee defense was not happy and they laid down for the South Carolina offense during the game.
