Do I stay or do I Go?

Not trying to be a downer but is someone telling these kids they'll get drafted. I don't think Camp or Curry do. Might get a shot as UDFAs......

I don’t think it’s combine numbers so much as the fact that they’ve graduated and are just ready to move on. At this point, they can give the NFL a shot and then move on if it doesn’t work out.

I agree though - no way Curry plays in the NFL. In also doubt Camp makes it just because I don’t know how well he can separate, but you never know. Harvin is NFL bound, though. Dude is a beast.

You’d have to think PHIII gets drafted but P is such a crapshoot due to low numbers.

I think Camp has a good chance. The pros are going to look at physical attributes over college production. Curry always said he wanted to give it a shot and he should. Far lesser players than him declare every year and I would imagine his expectations are realistic.

I don't think it's just the NFL.

If you have gotten your degree and another year might not make as much difference, start the process a year early in your life. That's one extra year to test the NFL waters, to try the coaching waters and also to look for a good job with your GT degree.

That's in general, it doesn't apply to every case, but I can see a player wanting to move on to get the process going for their next phase of their life.

This is how I see it too. Heck Curry has played for six years now. Other than continuing the college football dream, there’s not much upside to delaying getting started with your vocational career.

Stephen Hill ran a 4.28 40 at the combine at 6-5 and 215lbs. That’s better than Calvin and Bebe.

If Jalen Camp runs a 4.28 and grows a few inches then this is apples to apples.
Hill's short shuttle was not at all fast. That and an inability to concentrate at the level you would expect a GT alumnus to concentrate caused him to bust.

I wouldn't downplay the impact of the Combine for anyone not playing QB. Remember what happened to Dwyer. Calvin Johnson, for all his highlights, really rocketed into orbit when he ran a 4.39 in someone else's borrowed shoes and then promptly weighed in at 239'. It's also where the draft stock of elite players from smaller programs is evaluated.

Coach Lew will make them impress.

I think Camp has a huge upside for the NFL. His stats don't pop off the page because he only really played in 2018 and 2020. In 2018, he was still under CPJ so there weren't a ton of passes in general, and most went to the ABs or Stewart. Camp has a lot of raw talent and made some really nice catches this year.

It still amazes me that both Waller and Smelter played on a CPJ team at the same time. Would have been nice to see what they could’ve done in a passing offense at GT.

With Camp he has the physical attributes to be a NFL WR but he never really showed next level abilities. I thought Smelter was a going to be a beast but I guess the knee set him back too far to recover. I hope Camp blows them away but good money is that he will be an UFA.

Hell CPJ and assistant Niumatalolo ran a passing spread option at Hawaii in '92 to win the WAC. Been nice if CPJ had re winded his scheme to take more advantage of the Waller and Smelter duo. Oh well...

I’d be surprised if Camp doesn’t make a roster. And not sure he doesn’t get a flyer draft pick. He is going to crush the combine metrics. His bench will probably be best amongst all WRs and rival some linemen.

Yeah, would have been nice to have tweaked the most efficient offense in modern history with a few more passes.

Stephen Hill had problems catching the ball but ran by DB's many times at GT. He had incredible speed. I like Camp and wish him the best but I never saw that explosiveness of a Hill. Smelter was the classic great player - fantastic blocker - who blew his knee out. Still do not like the play by the UGA DB that hurt it. It was clear from the ACC championship game and the Orange Bowl that Waller had talent as a big guy, Suprised he has developed to the best TE in football but not suprised he made it. I wish Camp the best but I don't see the needed explosiveness quickness or speed. Hope I'm wrong.

He tried to and failed. Those 1992 passing concepts aren’t too relevant these days.

NFL scouts are all looking for “the next” so and so...

In Camp’s case...some will be comparing him to D.K. Metcalf. Camp is a freak who should be getting more respect. Especially from his own program’s fans. Some of us GT fans are extremely critical of our own.

That is a toxic trait I wish the GT fan base could rid itself of.
