Do you believe Drake May was offered $5 million?

Why would the Pitt head coach know about two schools offering a UNC player money? If this is real, then the circle of people who know about it is quite wide. We will find out in short order.

Reminds me of something:
From 1921 to 1964, the Yankees were the most successful MLB franchise, winning 20 World Series titles and 29 AL pennants. This period included streaks of four consecutive championships from 1936 to 1939 and five straight titles from 1949 to 1953.

They had more money than anyone.

Did other teams start having more money than them in 1965?

Look at what Caleb Williams did for USC this year. He was certainly worth that amount of money and then some. The problem is everyone thinks they are worth big money but only a handful of players are truly worth it. Maye probably is.
What? Why was he “worth that amount of money”

Because he told his boosters, go get me Drake Maye and they said that kid’s getting offered $5M we can’t afford that. So Narduzzi got butthurt and told the radio oh they’re offering this kid $5M this is unacceptable.

I love CFB but the NIL has bastardized the game. Gone now is the ‘student athlete’. Many are to blame for this Pandora’s box. It is funny to watch head coaches from the major factories get all up in arms when it doesn’t go their way. Karma.

My guess is some athletes are going to have to get screwed before this thing gets regulated.

I’m waiting for a 4* guy to sign a NIL for 100k or something at a smaller school. Then he makes it big and finds out that some booster owns his NIL rights for the next 10 years. That booster sells the rights to Nike when the guy gets drafted. Player loses a huge revenue stream because of a contract he signed in college.

Which is better than the previous system where major factories paid ”student anthletes” under the table and nobody else could without getting in trouble. I’m counting on factories being upset over these ridiculous price tags and losing recruits because of them. I’m giddy about it. The current structure is not sustainable, not even for uga. It’s going to shift and they’re going to raise their pitchforks very soon. Which will make the whole thing implode. Get your popcorn ready. We can still beat teams like UNC with their $5M quarterbacks at our worst. We’ll be just fine.

What? Why was he “worth that amount of money”
You don’t think having a Heisman winner carry your team to a conference title game and re-energize a fan base is worth $5 million? He led a turnaround from a 4-8 season. Their attendance was up about 10k this season.

i tend to agree with this line of thinking.. lets enjoy watching it all implode.

Everyone knows it. He isn’t the only one. Maybe just the one with balls big enough to speak up.

You mean Oregon?

Probably not Oregon despite their ties to UA or whomever. NIKE wanted Deion at SF because they felt he was more marketable there than Atlanta. Looking at marketability I think they may focus on school like USC or Texas before they focus on Oregon.

Lol...not sure if you are joking but the founder of Nike is a massive Oregon booster and they have poured money into the program for years, basically single-handedly funding their growth into a nationally competitive team.

Lincoln Riley has 3 of the last 6 Heisman winners. You don’t think he could do that with pretty much anyone? He’s already done it. I refuse to believe Caleb Williams was the driving force of that team and the ticket sales vs Lincoln Riley.

No. No college football player is worth $5M. They are far more replaceable than they and apparently you think.
