Does GT have a "puncher's chance" this weekend?

A lot of what you say is true, but I disagree strongly with the bolded statement. Who is in at QB matters a lot. Oliver averaged 8.4 yards per carry against Citadel, and Johnson averaged 0.7. Both passed equally ineffectively. FWIW Jordan Mason averaged 7.1 ypc. Our OL butchered the 2nd down play in OT, but we never even would have been in that situation had we played Oliver all game. 8.4 yards per carry (and 7.1 for Mason) would have been enough to win the game. We rarely averaged that much under CPJ, but we scored a lot more points because we were efficient and called plays with down and distance in mind. We're not doing that right now.
It was CITADEL. Neither QB kept them off balance. Given the opponent, that is more of an indictment on the offensive line than anything.

This looks like Oliver was pretty successful to me, regardless of what our OL or Citadel's defense was doing.

We scored 14 points in about 4 minutes with Oliver at QB. We scored 10 points in the other 56 minutes, mostly trying to force Johnson to run plays that Oliver is clearly better at.

One thing that's been overlooked in the Johnson-Oliver discussion is the the lack of carries for Mason. He had four carries in the first half against Citadel and only 11 overall. Yeah, some of that is being dictated by the defense on inside zone plays, but you still need to get the ball in his hands more.

It's not as simple as just running the ball more. The problem is that we're putting ourselves in horrible down-and-distance situations by doing stupid öööö on first and second down. With Oliver at QB, we're much more likely to end up in 3rd and 2 than 3rd and 15, even if he isn't able to throw downfield. We don't appear to be able to stretch anyone vertically right now, but we should be able to stretch horizontally with speed option (we have QBs who can read it and run it), bubble screens (easy throw and we have WRs who can block), and dive plays when we get the defense looking to the perimeter. I know we've tried that some, but we need to do it more.

In the time it took you to make this post Patenaude rolled through 8 different QBs. Sadly zero received the shotgun snap above the knees.

This will be a matchup between CPJ's recruits and CGC's recruits. Deep down, I wonder which team the 404'ers will be pulling for?
