Does our defense spend their practice time praying for Saturday turnovers?

Instead of practicing fundamentals.. you know, like tackling? Our perimeter blockers are better tacklers. Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah, during the OLeary days, when we needed to score 40 points and still worry that the defense would give the game away. What does this defense have in common with that one? hmmmmm?

Our defense has sucked for years. I haven't been impressed with Roof save for the second half of last season when we were forcing turnovers like crazy, but it's not like he introduced the concept of a lousy defense.

You can really tell how little some people know about the game of football when they come on here and start complaining about the defense.

Only gave up 10 points in the 2nd half.

I fail to see a problem with that.

Fair point, but you also have to factor in that Pitt was in no hurry on the second half. They ate clock on the ground 4 yards at a time and we basically bled to death. It kind of seemed like they could have kept it a shootout if they wanted to.

Our problem on D is lack of DL play; but it is not as glaring as the OL problem. We have good play at LB and in the secondary that helps mask the lack of DL performance. Gotsis is a stud, Freeman will be very good player; but the DL drops off from there. I think someone did Hunt-Days a disservice blowing him up to 300 lbs, I feel he played better when he was lighter. The development of Kallon hasn't been a failure; but hasn't been all we had hoped either. In summary, on DL we have Gotsis and a bunch of guys who are serviceable; but there is no real pass rush threat without a blitz and no dominant run stoppers.

Their first drive was 7 minutes, 10 seconds if my memory serves. We scored in less than 2 minutes in response. They beat us at our own game in terms of controlling the clock.

Gave up more total points and yards to Pitt than any team other than Youngstown State. I don't know how you can not see a problem with that.

Game was tied at the half wasn't it?

You more mad about the D giving up 10 or the O scoring 7?

You're being too kind. It's gotsis and the three dwarves

Pitt has a solid D, but a mediocre O, so I'm more disappointed in the defense for not being able to get off the field sooner and allowing Pitt to chew up tons of clock. The game isn't just played in the second half. With decent defense, we have a lead at halftime.

I don't agree with you but at least you don't sound like some of these other morons with your position so I'll credit you that.

The defense has regressed to Roof's bend but don't break philosophy. We aren't getting consistent quick pressure and are leaving the db's out. I want to be more aggressive, putting our d out for 8minutes early in the game is suicide. If they beat us up top, so be it, but stop the öööö 4 yard runs.

Agree... The Defense giving up 10 points in the second half is not the problem.... the Offense only scoring 7 points and not able to grind out the clock is an issue.....

OLINE play...WIDE OUT PLAY...F...I know they tried but wow in week 7 any issues should have been figured out by week 4

The D was not good today, or the last game. But they are not the main problem this season, and they are far from the worst we've seen during CPJ's tenure.

The losses on DL from before the 2014 season still hurt. We've got DE's playing DT and OLB's playing DE.

That's not an excuse for CPJ. He has said DL is the toughest position to recruit for, but GT has had good DL at times. Duke, ND, Pitt, etc. also find DL good enough for good defenses.

The point is regardless of any one game the d is and has been the issue in totality any given year. And under roof it may be the worse it's ever been. Last year we were in the 100s in d.

This year we have made teams have personal highs every game. Whether in longest play from scrimmage or yards or whatever. No improvement

So the fact remains the d is and still is an issue. Is the o garbage this year too......yup....but the d doesn't deserve a pass either. Typically the O shoulders the burden.
