Does our defense spend their practice time praying for Saturday turnovers?

I think JJ was joking around, but your post is spot on. And I didn't know that about the coaches ranking players, that's interesting. Is it a by-position type deal, like a depth chart, or do they rank all players against each other?

Even in jest, I don't think it's right to call one of our former players a liar. Also, Shaq said Jabari was the best DL he faced last season. Why would that be a lie?

The D was not good today, or the last game. But they are not the main problem this season, and they are far from the worst we've seen during CPJ's tenure.

the problem is that THIS def should be good with SIX Srs--with 2 JRs --if this is the best we got what about next yr? scary

I don't know, our o-line has four seniors and they're playing even worse than the defense is. It is scary, but...you never know.

Because football is played with 1st & 2nd half?

In other words, at least 3 of the last 4 games our D has not come out ready to play. Our D never gets a good pass rush.

And because D & ST are just as important to winning as O. Actually I think D is the most important of the 3. JMO

We live and die with the O first and foremost. CPJ was not hired for defense. We go where his expert chess match offense takes us.

You can really tell how little some people know about the game of football when they come on here and start complaining about the defense.

Only gave up 10 points in the 2nd half.

I fail to see a problem with that.

Practice what you preach genius...there are two halves in a football game and the DL was being pushed around and our linebackers where wiffing on tackles. Other than the obvious few this defense is not getting the job done and they haven't for a long time. Having great talent can disguise mediocre coaching, but with mediocre talent combined with our coaching staff our short comings stick out like a turd in a punch bowl.

When your big guys suck, you have to bring pressure and that doesn't mean a linebacker up a clogged up middle. Why do you think Clay had sacks? That makes it better for the inside guys. The defense is ill configured to do what Roof wants and the offense is ill configured to do what Johnson wants. What I see are coaches who refuse to tailor their plan to what we have.

Ok, I'll bite. Based on what we have on offense, particularly the offensive line, how would you tailor the offense to be more effective?

Quit the cute blocking and hit the guy in front of you. Don't send 3 linemen to block the second level. We can get by on 3 to 4 yard runs. Maybe a little shotgun on obvious passing downs. We have Justin with his back to the line and he turns around to a guy in his face. He doesn't have a prayer of finding someone. More screens on early downs to spread them out. Jeune had a guy a half foot shorter than him. Break one and they have to move the safety out of the box.

There is a significant deficiency on the defensive front. I would entertain a 3-4 because we do have good linebackers. Train whitehead as a linebacker and move Trey Klock to defensive end. I would move Gotsis to an end position and Gamble at nose with Freeman as a rush end. The kid, (51) is a reak good ball player and Victor Alexander is a good player. We have nothing to lose at this point but another game. The opposing teams would fear the Gotsis side and that may enable the defense to get some stops. I would also entertain a little more man on man.

I don't know where to start...

I would jam the receivers at the line and send the house on first down. The large cushions and no pressure do not work together.
