Dumbest Play in NCAA History By LSU

Georgia ööööing sucks and I hope Key is as angry at himself as I am for losing to an overrated piece of öööö team like that. ööööing embarrassing.

GT‘s kick returner fielded the ball on the opening KO in the end zone, put one foot down outside the end zone, then stepped back and downed it. Safety for VT on the KO.

TBF, I think he was overbalanced when he caught the ball and didn’t mean to step out, but still…

I think you're referring to Orwin Smith against Miami in 2012. That was right below our seats and to this day I don't think the ball came all the way out of the EZ. What a miserable game that was! I had a Clemson friend with me that game and it was a perfect game for him to watch as Tech pulled a Clemson to perfection.

Wow! How can there be that many utterly clueless players on the field at one time?
A few years back, Auburn's "Kick Six" vs Bama..... Bama's short FG attempt got returned about 100 yards to win the game when Bama failed to cover the kick.

Once the ball crosses the LOS, it's like a punt.

On Godsey's famous 3rd down play, the blocked FG didn't cross the LOS.

Sneezy punching Thomas on 3rd down after the play. It would have been 4th and nearly impossible. Instead, VT gets a first down. Scores. Wins.

Oh man, I remember that. We had somebody on here who went all time nuclear over that, what a mess.

That was the 2012 Miami game. Orwin Smith was the KO returner. He caught the ball in the EZ, started to run out, then his blocker told him to take the touchback. He stopped suddenly and rocked forward while going down and it was determined that the ball touched the plane of the goal line.

Yes, that was it. I'm not 100% sure how the rule states it, but the ball is in the EZ as soon as it touches the GL going in. It stands to reason that the ball should have to be completely in fair territory to be considered out.

I think you're right, they reviewed it and the ball completely left the endzone before going back into the endzone before he kneeled.

They did review it, and I consider it bogus. The play was right in front of us, and he never came all the way out himself. His front foot hand, but not his torso and neither of his feet. He had the ball down by his side. I cannot believe the ball came all the way out. I'd bet it was inconclusive, but since they ruled it out and called the safety, the replay couldn't overturn the call. If I ever see a pic of that with the ball clearly out.

Here's the video. You tell me. It's about the 13-minute mark.

I was there as well (even if I got the opponent wrong!) west stands around the 15 yl. At the game I thought he did come out, but I think you correct; not enough to overrule.

Didn’t we do something similar vs UGA @BDS on the opening kickoff? There was a similar situation in the north end zone bc it happened right in front of me. The officials took several minutes to discuss and eventually called it a touchback. It may have been 2019?

Hell, dumbass who went to Bama screwed up the opening kick last season against the gaggers. Then quit on us.

Taking a knee for a safety is up there

John Dewberry did that against ugag in 1984. We were backed up inside the five yard line with a lead. Defense was playing well and we didn't want to take a chance on a blocked punt. Dewberry takes the snap, drops back looking for an open receiver and couldn't find anyone open, so, as instructed, took as much time off the clock as possible and stepped out of the back of the endzone for a safety. Allowed us to free kick the ball from our 20 yard line and put the mutts back fairly deep into their own territory. I'm pretty sure that was their last score of the game.
