Do you really think two freshman DTs are what really pushes this team over the top? How likely is it they even play next year?

All we’ve heard about the OL is that it takes 3 years to develop good starters. Decent DT athletes aren’t going to waltz in out of high school and start blowing up OLs.

Collins isn’t going to be around to see these young men probably ever play a game.
Agreed.

Student-Athletes, right? Which croot ranking/guessing sites give them the student stars? Need that before I can evaluate freshman class. TIA.

They better. Or off to the next school they go, amirite?

You'd think an elite recruiter and defensive mind could get us at least in the top 40 but it is what it is. I've been told I should ignore recruiting rankings again, not because we run an unconventional offense this time, but because we got two 4* DTs.

But, throwing all of that out of the window and because of the two 4* DTs I'll give it a C. Fair.

they're composite 3 stars. but some like to cheery pick among the rating services
Everybody, including myself, uses whatever to fit a certain narrative. For instance, their were those almost giddy over flipping a kid from East Michigan, I believe. If the previous coach had done that, it would have been met with derision. Not pointing fingers because I do the same thing.

I gave the class a fair. Not a bad class but middle of the pack in our conference and certainly no where near what I believe was promised when Collins was hired. Still though, if we had a decent coach instead of a diva, probably be a very serviceable class.

I think the overall rating of these players is quite good. The service I looked at has it the sixth best class in the conference. That is good. Of course, we play ND a lot and UGA annually and they are way ahead of us. The twofold problem with recruiting hype in the Collins era is:
1. His love of the word “elite”. He talks about recruiting at an elite level and getting our football to an elite level. Of course, he also talks of how he was considered an elite defensive coach, which is debatable. A sixth rated class in your conference is not recruiting at an elite level, only a good level. Elite classes are top ten national classes.
2. College football players, even highly recruited ones, take time to develop and need to play in a system that is effective. This staff has not shown an ability to do that very well. Our previous coach had a system in place where he could get results on the field higher than his average recruiting classes. So far it would be reasonable to predict Collins’ teams are likely to perform at a lower level than their recruiting ranking.

The best class CPJ had was 8th in the conference. Most of the time it was in the 10-12 rank.

Class was too small overall to get an A mark, but the players look good.

We went from a Top 25 class to one around 40th over the course of a couple weeks. Terrible closing. "It's a small class, though" yes, that's why it's ranked low and rightly so. Undersigning numbers was the small ball I thought we were moving away from. If this is some moral superiority bullshit from the GTAA, they need to stop smelling their own farts and get over it. Sign 25 per year, make the numbers work from there. So, unless we're getting 12 transfers, wtf are we doing?

No, you said that he worked for Rivals and that makes him a professional recruiter. Who is paying him or other Rivals employees to recruit. TIA!
No, I said he was a recruiting professional. There is a difference.

So, you’d rather we backfill the class with 10 guys that will never see the field and instead take up a much needed scholarship for 4 years. I mean, that is the old method.
