We went from a Top 25 class to one around 40th over the course of a couple weeks. Terrible closing. "It's a small class, though" yes, that's why it's ranked low and rightly so. Undersigning numbers was the small ball I thought we were moving away from. If this is some moral superiority bullshit from the GTAA, they need to stop smelling their own farts and get over it. Sign 25 per year, make the numbers work from there. So, unless we're getting 12 transfers, wtf are we doing?

Like I said in another thread, the last time we signed a class this size, it was 84th in the country. The terrible closing happened when we lost our last 6 games and the last two by 100-0. We could have signed a few more but if you only have one year to turn things around, are you going to push an Ace Eley out the door for a high schooler who probably won't see the field next year?

I am frustrated too because this class could have been a 2007 type class at one point, but we did pretty well, considering the results on the field and staff changes. You've got to be a pretty good recruiter to sell your vision in our situation.

So, you’d rather we backfill the class with 10 guys that will never see the field and instead take up a much needed scholarship for 4 years. I mean, that is the old method.

We've signed 25 twice in the past 10 years. Literally wtf are you talking about "the old way"?!? If you think I'm advocating signing junk players, you're mentally ööööing retarded. I'm saying cut players that don't pan out, give them a medical scholarship, encourage them to transfer, but ALWAYS plan to sign 25.

Why would you push Ace out the door and not one of the garbage players who never sees the field? Why is that the strawman you decided to bring to the table? I'm not feeling like we should give the staff cookies for average star rating, because numbers matter too and when that's taken into account its a 40th ranked class. Last year's class was small too. Play the numbers game, sign top 25 classes, win games. I don't think that's too high of a bar to set.

I hear you, but I think the calculation has changed due to extra covid years and immediately eligible transfers. No way we were signing 25 quality recruits this year with a coach now on the hot seat, anyway. So you are advocating bringing in 10 guys you're just going to process out in a year or two purely to say you signed 25.

I'm advocating bringing 10 more guys in because it's a percentage game. If we're aiming that from the start, there's no reason they should be scrubs, but even if you break the class into best 15 extra 10, some of the extra 10 will be misses, but so are some of the players we've signed in the best 15. You're hoping for 1 or 2 hits out of the extra 10 and that gives you room to process the misses of the first 15. In return, the other 8 get a free year of college, don't feel too bad for them.

And I would add that if the 12 transfers are not an improvement over what we have been getting through the portal, then we'll continue to see the same results on the field. I am coming to the conclusion that our clown and I have a different understanding of elite.

Collins has to win next year, so taking a flyer on a bunch of 2-3 star prospects just to fill out the roster will have less of an effect on next season than getting transfers who have a much better chance of contributing immediately

13 is less than I expected, but we still have until February for the HS players. Also, it’s no surprise Collins wants to aggressively recruit the portal. He needs to win now or will be gone. Rarely do true freshmen contribute significantly. He’s trying to add starting caliber players during what’s essentially college football free agency.

Must sign good players every year and retain those that actually turn out to be good. I just don’t think the portal can be used effectively to build a cohesive team that can win.

When was the last time we signed 2 4* DTs?
Star creep is real. We’ll see how good these 4-stars are next year. It used to be that a 4-star recruit was someone who would contribute as a freshman but probably not make all conference and grow into a star on the team. That has not been my experience as recruiting services have expanded the shear number of 4-stars, and how they’re rated as such. Too much focus on camps and measurables rather than actual football play.

Voted C. If the coach could coach perhaps he would have kept the guys who went elsewhere and added a surprise or two could have been an A. Also, sixth in the conference should never be more than a C.

This ranking is more retarded that even the national numerical rankings?

Did we meet our needs? I think so. Recruiting classes usually do.

Was it as good as it could have been? No. Threatening your coach's job nationally tends to have that effect.
