Here we are, a little less than three months from TML, and I am curious to take the temperature of Jacket Nation. I am sorry to say I have probably never been less excited about the start of a football season.

What accounts for this? Obviously our sheer ineptitude the past three years. Combined with my doubt that CGC can right the ship this year. Combined with the politicization of the team during COVID and BLM. Combined with the rules changes (transfer portal, NIL, etc.) that have undermined whatever remaining 'for the love of the game' spirit that used to make college football so special. Combined no doubt with the cynicism and world-weariness of a fat old man.

Last year was the first time in almost 20 years that I voluntarily missed a game (just chose to stay out of town rather than come back for one of the games). I also stopped giving to the AA. At this point I'm planning to attend all the games, but man, it wouldn't take much to distract me with something else shiny.

In a way, it doesn't feel good at all – I miss the 'juice'. On the other hand, suddenly I've got more space in my head to think about other things, like that nutty Amber Heard/Johnny Depp relationship. (See, marriage can solve all society's problems.)

Channel surfing last night, the GT @ UVA game was on. We were up 16-14 in the 2nd and marching down the field (mainly behind Jordan Mason and some good blocking). Then Sims throws into double coverage on the goal line.....then UVA scores a few minutes later on a simple sideline pass that the CB whiffs a tackle on and our Safeties are nowhere to be seen.

I turned the channel.

I've taken to watching game replays. Easier to skip commercials, less emotional carnage, I can just turn it off since I already know the outcome, and most importantly it feels like less of a waste of my time to spend an hour watching at 10 pm Sunday than 4 hours in the middle of the day Saturday.

I voted 7-8 but not necessarily for the caption. My excitement level is a 7-8, my optimism level is a 5-6. There's a big difference in the two.

ACCN had the GT 90' championship special on last night. It's been 32 years, I know what happens, and I'm still nervous when they speak of/show Sisson's kick.

I’m always excited for some gt football. But the level has died down some. I’m still at 9-10 but a few more seasons like the last and I may be down a few pegs.

I got out in 2010. My 3 best memories of GT football are:

1. Singing THWG at Midway pub after we beat Georgia in 2014 with the kick to send us to OT (after clawing our way out of a deficit the entire second half) and then the pick to seal it.
2. Charging the field after beating #4 Virginia Tech 28-23 in October in 2009.
3. Charging the field after beating #6 Clemson in late October in 2011.

I try to make at least one game per season, but the first CGC season left a bad taste in my mouth, and COVID and CGC's 2nd and 3rd seasons made me extremely pessimistic about the state of the program. Honestly, I don't even know if I'll watch half the games this season, let alone make the trek to Bobby Dodd.

Great thread.

I realized this year that I need to be excited about GT. I cancelled my nearly 40-year run of season tickets this year - not as a statement of any kind but I just can’t make it to ATL anymore and I hate selling my tix on Stubhub.

What I didn’t count on was how depressing it is not to have those tickets anymore. It didn’t help that they went to digital tickets- the actual tickets felt like stock certificates to me.

But I am hanging my hat on two things - the new coaches and Collins’ genuine love for GT.

If he fails, he fails but it won’t be for lack of effort and, right or wrong, I think he is putting everything he’s got into this season.

So I choose to be optimistic but I don’t have nearly as much evidence to back it up as the pessimists do.

I'll be at most of the home games. Probably be at COFH again this year in Muttville.
Will have lots of alcohol alongside to help me through the games.
I can't think of a Tech season I've looked less forward to than 2022. But I'll be there.

I'd say a 7. Either Tech is gonna be insane this year, or we suck, and we're back in the coaching carrousel and the excitement for the new coach will bring me back up to a 10.

I'm excited about going to the bar most Saturdays and making an ATL trip (and maybe an away game).

Winning would be great too tho...

Chris Weinke is the best addition in the off season. Better QB development is a necessity.

Solod 6.

I am a Georgia Tech football fan on a Georgia Tech football message board. No amount of suckage will change that. If you hate college football or Georgia Tech football in general you probably need a better way to spend your time than a Georgia Tech football board, posting about how valuable your time is.

Go Jackets
