College football sucks and so do we. Who gives a öööö? This is already part of your life and who you are. Get your öööö together.

Here we are, a little less than three months from TML, and I am curious to take the temperature of Jacket Nation. I am sorry to say I have probably never been less excited about the start of a football season.

What accounts for this? Obviously our sheer ineptitude the past three years. Combined with my doubt that CGC can right the ship this year. Combined with the politicization of the team during COVID and BLM. Combined with the rules changes (transfer portal, NIL, etc.) that have undermined whatever remaining 'for the love of the game' spirit that used to make college football so special. Combined no doubt with the cynicism and world-weariness of a fat old man.

Last year was the first time in almost 20 years that I voluntarily missed a game (just chose to stay out of town rather than come back for one of the games). I also stopped giving to the AA. At this point I'm planning to attend all the games, but man, it wouldn't take much to distract me with something else shiny.

In a way, it doesn't feel good at all – I miss the 'juice'. On the other hand, suddenly I've got more space in my head to think about other things, like that nutty Amber Heard/Johnny Depp relationship. (See, marriage can solve all society's problems.)
Great summary of how I feel. Since about 2000, watching GT football was one of my favorite things to do. By the time CPJ took over, I was obsessed. 11/10. The near-apathy I feel now would have been unfathomable.

Honestly, though. GT’s suckage is not necessarily the #1 factor for me. The sport has transformed a lot in a short period of time, and I almost can’t recognize it anymore.

I think it's recognizable, but that is the problem. The hands of the dollar saw that the public had a sport full of passion and culture, and they set about synthesizing every part of it and giving us a sport which leads us by the hand through a vaguely new narrative every single year with ads everywhere you look. College football is now played in a patch of the uncanny valley and it's uncomfortable to look at.

But I am hanging my hat on two things - the new coaches and Collins’ genuine love for GT.

I no longer believe this. I bought all his hype he spewed. And maybe deep down I still have 1% hope it’s true, but if he truly loved GT he would not have this program in this position after 3 years of making decisions. A lot of programs are in better shape today than they were 3 years ago so the Covid BS is just that. Bottom line is he took a 7-8 win program and turned it into a 3 win program. In a year from today he will be coaching DB’s at a mid level SEC school because he’s in the fraternity and we’ll still be here wondering what just happened for 4 freaking years. In the end we will have paid a guy millions to destroy our program.

I want to revote. My excitement is about to jump through the roof as it does every spring practice.

I'm a 3, but also in the camp of people who's feelings do not match the description. for me it would be:

"I'll watch when I can, but I see no point in building my Saturdays around watching this team play anymore."

GTFletch praises portal
Recruiting better this year
Clemson looms large.

Did I just accidentally Haiku?

I’m addicted like it’s synthetic heroine. Oh wise @The Jacket , how do I stop?

A love affair with ghosts of the past will invariably lead to suicide. It is a self-solving problem, and you can stay drunk and watch football on the way there. Let it consume you. Abandon your fantasies of who you are, accept and love yourself because of, not despite, your passion for this dying and corrupted thing. If this wasn't the universe's master plan, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

All is lost. Go Jackets.

Nope. Haiku syllabic cadence is 5-7-5. Yours is 7-7-4
GTFletch is one syllable ( however the hell its pronounced) so I think line 1 is ok. We agree on line two. But I think you got me on the last line.

I will wash everyone’s rice bowls next week as penance for my error.

Hey I'd love to hear how you pronounce GTFletch in one syllable!

this was in jest, there are bigger fish to fry with those of us afflicted with Tech fandom.

Even if CGC hadn’t hit rock bottom I’d still be mentally checked out with the departure of Gibbs. My obsession with recruiting evaporated overnight. What’s the point of getting exciting when anything good that happens will just be purchased for a price we can’t match.

I gave my season tickets one more go this year and already kind of regret it. Regardless of how this season goes, I doubt I’m renewing next year. NIL has pretty much killed it for me.

I voted the lowest strictly because of the sissy face mask comment lol

Ok here is it is.....

If Geoff Collins has gotten his act together and he can shore up the Defense that has gone to crap under his watch I see us going:

6-6
L- Clemson
W- WCU
L- OLE Miss
L- UCF
L- Pitt
W- Duke
W- UVA
W- FSU
W- VT
L- Miami
W- UNC
L- UGA

If Geoff Collins is the same coach as the last three years and the defense shows no improvement:

3-9
L- Clemson
W- WCU
L- OLE Miss
L- UCF
L- Pitt
W- Duke
L- UVA
W- FSU
L- VT
L- Miami
L- UNC
L- UGA
