F$U Imploding

This. Florida State seems further away from being decent than Miami ever has on their 20+ year journey to Back.
Not 20+ years.

They won the BCS National Championship in the 2002 Rose Bowl. But for a really horrible call in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, Miami would have beaten OSU for back-to-back undefeated seasons and BCS National Championships. They beat the Semiholes in the 2004 Orange Bowl and finished 11-2 and ranked 5th overall. It was after that the wheels started to come off the bus. So more like 16/17 years max.

Jesus. Feels like that was decades ago now. Calvin had only just learned to walk and jump and rip the soul out of Clemson fans while the ripping was good.

FSU is not going back to "old FSU levels." They cannot get the players they used to get competing against strong Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida and Miami programs (which are all strong now), not to mention decent UCF, Auburn and Mississippi programs. Except Miami and sometimes Auburn and Florida, these programs (especially Alabama) were not the same during the FSU glory days, they don't have the great Bobby Bowden, and there is NOTHING appealing about Tallahassee. I see a lot of 8-4, with some 7-5 and 9-3.

You may be right that they aren't coming back; but your reasoning is wrong. Florida, Miami, and Alabama were winning National Championships when FSU rose into prominence. Auburn was having very good seasons, and LSU was very competitive. UCF didn't exist and MSU and Ole Miss barely existed though. Bowden was recruiting against the likes of Steve Spurrier, Gene Stallings, Jimmy Johnson, Galen Hall, .... Jimbo Fisher had to recruit against Urban Meyer, Les Miles, and Nick Saban. FSU definitely has issues now; but it isn't because they suddenly find themselves having to compete for players for the first time.

I see similarities between Bowden and Beamer's legacy.
That is funny. FSU is a national football brand. VT is not even in the same universe. FSU will make it back because they care to make it back and have zero standards. They just need the right coach and a real QB.

Anyone who doesn’t think FSU won’t be back in the CFB playoff conversation in 5-10 years is kidding themselves. Every program Bama included has good times, bad times. FSU is 2x more likely to be a NC contender within the next 10 years than we are because of their nonexistent academic program and much more $ devoted to their athletic program. That’s the truth. But by all means, drink the juice and bash the post.

10 years to be "in the conversation?" WTF do you think that proves? LMFAO - I just hope I'm still alive in 10 years!

FSU was in the NC hunt EVERY SINGLE YEAR from 1987-2000. Never lost more than 2 game and never finished ranked worse than fifth over a 14 year span. No, I don't think they are returning to their former glory. Sorry. They will stay third banana in Florida behind UF and Miami most of the time - and that's if they're not fourth behind UCF . . . or even fifth behind USF at some point. Especially if they keep losing to Miami 52-10 (!!!). Not to mention getting absolutely bumrushed by Piit and Louisville. Also, Saban and Kirby LOVE recruiting in Florida. FSU is mostly getting the hideous leavins these days.

And citing their nonesistent academic program reeks of the old "it's the Hill" canard. Stanford, and Cal, and Northwestern, and Michigan, and Notre Dame have EXISTENT academic programs, and yet they seem to have managed to field some pretty decent teams from time to time. Georgia Tech: It's not just for engineers anymore. There are PLENTY of weak majors and weak courses at Tech nowadays, and if they can't get that kid with the 850 SAT academically eligible for three years, they aren't trying. Unless we're talking the Ivy League, I don't think academics are a major factor in whether you can field a good football team these days. IOW, just because FSU is a sorry little craphole of a college, I don't think that is going to give them some huge advantage in sweeping up a bunch of talented athletes who are as dumb as a bag of rocks. Dumb as a bag of rocks and a 4.4 40 will get you a football scholarship at a ton of colleges.

They are rapidly approaching the time when most kids being recruited won't remember them being good. So they can build back just like us or Illinois or USC or Nebraska or anybody else who was good before they were bron.

Crablegs was dancing around only six years ago. I think it's too soon to be saying they're irrelevant to kids

Further Implosion:

NC State - 28
Semiholes - 3
I don't think I have ever seen worse effort on an OL han FSU right now. They need an entire changing of the OL. We look like the mid 70's Steelers compared to what FSU put out there last night.
