This is killing me guys. I wouldn’t be able to cheer for the jackets to beat uga. The wins haven’t come all the time but for those special seasons I’ve gotten to hold up a middle finger to every uga fan I know, all while touting the fact that I cheer for real Student athletes.

Idk how life would be without this special time of year.

Eventually GT would be a school filled with students who don't care about football instead of only half full of such students. Your time would be freed up to play Minecraft, practice the cello, or something.

People who are ok with this are willing to throw out all of the traditions that the institute has ever had. Are you gonna change the ööööing fight song? We play big boy power 5 football. Some of you would be ok with throwing in the towel?

If that scenario plays out, I could see GT joining the league/division/conference of like minded schools that are trying field amateur athletes and compete there. I’d still support GT under such a scenario, even though I realize that I’m in the minority.

As posted earlier, I expect the NCAA to impose good sounding, but largely ineffective measures to slow it down. At some point, the economics required to get some of the top players would likely be too much. Not sure how long that would take to play out...

When you consider how much $$$ Clemson, Ugag and Alabama and other state schools have spent and spend already, it’s pretty clear that they are playing a different game than GT (and lots of others are).

One way would be to decrease the roster size. Lower the # of scholarships and walk ons, maybe to FCS levels.

I doubt you could legally restrict how many players are paid by outside agencies on any given team. It will get ugly.
But I said it before. Make players pay for school, etc. The rich highly paid kids have to pay for everything like the rest of the world and the ones not making the buck, gets scholarships (need).

Considering the bragging we do about being wealthy and owning businesses it is odd that we think other schools could out pay us.

Can't say he's entirely wrong. It will definitely open a pandora's box and the gulf between the have and have nots will get even wider. This point in the article was interesting:

Start with this fix: players choosing to take endorsement money then forgo their scholarship, (but still count toward their team’s scholarship limit). Players and their families can decide if the endorsement money is worth the risk of forgoing a full scholarship.

Yeah, my basic problem with it is the ability to sign an agents. Once you sign an agent, then you are saying: I'm a professional athlete. That is fine but at that point, you need to go about your business and that isn't going to college, especially for "free".

I have zero problem with athletes getting earned outside income. I'm not sure how anyone could be so that includes endorsement deals and stuff like that or true jobs they have.

BUT we know that a lot of that income is not going to be earned AND there could be great disparities in the locker room which could cause issues. That is why I would cap the income somewhere in the $10-50k range.

IMG is interesting. I wonder if we'll have a bunch of middle schools and high schools pop up for football. Colleges would sign exclusive deals with one of those football schools to get access to their students.
