Final AP Poll

Well, I was right that we wouldn't get into the top 25 no matter what we did, but we jumped a lot higher than I thought we would. On the other hand, my thought that it was impossible was apparently completely stupid because Miami jumped sixteen goddamn spots. I guess that's what happens when an SEC coach joins a team which is out of their own league.

Not next year. As hilariously stupid as those early 2017 rankings in the other thread are, it's probably a reasonable indicator of what we'll see in August. Georgia won't actually start #10 but they'll be top 15 or 20. More than any other conference, the media does the SEC the favor of resetting their opinions before each season and they'll all be using the "Eason will improve, Chubb is coming back" excuse to back it up.

After so many years without one, I badly want to see Georgia finally have a truly disastrous season punctuated by us smashing their toothless faces into Grant Field.

I feel like people forget we play clemson unless we beat them. We have two losses to top 25 teams out of 4 one of which was the number one team and National Champion.

I was ready for us to be top 25.

Even though I didn't think we'd make it into the poll anyway, since they put us at 27th and it's the first day of a long offseason, let's look at this.

#22 Tennessee was ranked 9th back in October when they lost to Texas A&M and despite the loss managed to stay ranked 9th the following week before getting BTFO by Alabama. That loss knocked them down to 18th and they didn't fall out of the poll until the following week when they lost to an awful South Carolina. They had only managed to claw their way back to 24th right before Vanderbilt beat them by 11.

#24 Auburn lost three of their last four games, with their only win in that period against Alabama A&M. The first loss was to a mediocre Georgia which we beat. The other two were blowout losses to Alabama and Oklahoma.

#25 San Diego State lost two games in November, one to Wyoming which knocked them out of the polls from 24th, followed by a blowout loss to Colorado State, mediocre teams from a garbage conference. They managed to win the rematch with Wyoming in the vaunted MWCC and beat Houston in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Georgia Tech and Kansas State won the final four games of their seasons and both teams defeated SEC schools in their bowl games.

Ranked auburn is bs. Hard to argue about the rest. Utah, GT, and Kansas St are all about equal in my opinion.

"AP football voting is a joke" confirmed with this, if there was any doubt. Vote gap between Clemson-Bama way too small. SEC effect still well in play too, with LSU and Florida being ranked way too high and Auburn being ranked at all. Eff these guys.

Clemson received 100% of the first place votes; Bama 100% of the second place votes. How would you vote?

I may misunderstand how the voting works then. Seems like Bama had a lot of points but if that's how it's setup then it's completely fair and reasonable. Appreciate you clarifying.

It's a weighted ranking system with 60 voters:

Clemson's score (they received all 60 first place votes) = 1500 = 25 x 60
Bama = 1440 = 24 x 60

That's why 60 points separate them.

I wonder how many of the voters think 21-25 would actually beat us right now. I'd put the line around -7 if we played Auburn on a neutral field tomorrow. Not to mention we have a better record against a comparable schedule...

Points given for vote, so if you get a vote at #1, you get 25 points. #2 gets 24 points.
There are 60 voters. 60 x 25 = 1,500 points (Clemson). 60 x 24 = 1,440 (Bama).
