Firmly entrenched

Since "da U is back" and F$U almost beat them and trashed BYU, does this mean the ACC will start getting some respect? All the pundits have hammered home the point that it's absolutely necessary for these two teams to be at the top of the conference for it to be worth anything.

EDIT: Not that I really care all that much about the ACC's perception right now. We just got embarrassed and aren't likely to get much respect outside of the conference unless we win out, so people pumping up Miami doesn't exactly do much for me. I was actually cheering for Nebraska today, even knowing it would make a win for us over VT look less impressive.

So we have to go 11-1 to get "much respect outside the conference?" If you mean MNC contenders, then I agree. But we can still get a decent bowl game and top 25 finish with a 9-3 season and cetainly a 10-2 season.

Sorry if I don't jumping off a bridge because everybody else is after one loss. If you're that sensitive, then you can be a UF fan, and even they lose from time to time.

You're making a lot of assumptions/generalizations here. I just meant that all of our big games on a national scale are done with for the year other than the VT game (and the ACC championship game if we get there). The concept that Miami rising is good for the ACC doesn't really help us any more than it helps a team like South Carolina that Florida is in the ACC, because we didn't compete with them.

I've responded very rationally to the Miami game...I'm not jumping off any bridges. Of course it's not 11-1 or bust. This can still be a very good season. I was referring to garnering large-scale respect on the national level, though, not having a good season and I personally have lost interest in the "we need this team to win because it makes the ACC look better" argument. We may very well have had our biggest stage of the regular season this past Thursday and it didn't make Georgia Tech look better.

Still think you're reacting emotionally. Teams get hammered all the time and still retain or regain their "national respect". It's the nature of college football now that if you have a bad game you give up tons of points. Do you think BYU is now going to fall out of the national picture? It's about what you do after a big loss tha matters.

I honestly think we're 1st Tier

I'm not going to base the decision on one bad game. That just seems stupid IMO

With that, I'd put FSU up there as well. I think that they proved that you can have a bad game and still rebound.

They went on the road and beat BYU who everyone in the Press was already proclaiming Cinderella and BCS crasher

I think that we as well as FSU have had a rough go thus far, but it looks like FSU righted the ship....can we? I think we will next week

The difference between us and FSU is we had a flat performance against a FCS team (though not quite as flat as FSU). Game after instead of clobbering a ranked team on the road we acted like a bottle rocket (shot off before fizzling) against Clemson and won because CPJ>Dabo.

The reason people are "jumping off bridges" as someone put it, is because against Miami we didn't just look inferior or tired, we looked incompetent as a team. The reason this worries people so much is that it isn't something that is magically going to go away or change with the opponent. Last year we might of looked similar at times but there was a reason, we were learning a complex offense. Not happening this time around.

Am I saying we're screwed? No, but there is a possibility that we won't see improvement this season, particularly on defense.

I would say the Terps are definitely in deep doo-doo. Duke probably right behind.

Whether Miami or Florida State are all that remains to be seen. Miami had our number and we gave it to 'em. Stink-o game plan/prep, dumb penalties, playing down there with their being bent on revenge, underestimating them, etc. It's still a little too early to tell where we are. Do we have addressable concerns? Oh, yeah. How that stacks up with the rest of a very competitive conference remains to be seen. One thing is for sure though. It won't get any easier.

Simply my opinion.

Nothing wrong with you disagreeing.

That's true.

Personally, I think we're all a little biased based on our experiences this year. I think Clemson beats Miami on a neutral field, so I'd put them as first tier.

Heck, deep down in my heart, I still think we're better than Miami. We just didn't execute in ANY phase of the game the other night.

After watching FSU vs. Jax St., there is no way you can say that FSU is above the 3rd tier.

The bottom line is that whoever wins Miami vs. VT next week is the team to beat. Hopefully VT wins, we beat VT and everybody else we play and we go to a BCS bowl.

If we get our act together, there's no reason we can't be the best team in the ACC and in the top 5 in the country.

I have seen us lose a lot of games. What is irksome is that, just as in the Peach Bowl, in the Miami game we had the big stage with seemingly everything in the world to play hard for, and we didn't show up in either game. Call it being flat, having a Georgia hangover, or what, but in two games where you shouldn't need a coach to get you "up" our team was down. That is very hard to understand, especially from a team that was talking championship in August. Are we practicing too hard and have nothing left for game day? Are we enthralled by our press clippings? There has to be an explanation. Most of these guys have PROVEN that they can actually play. You don't win 9 games on your good looks. But aside from giving up 42, 38, 27, and 33 points in 4 of our last five games, there is a sense that something else is lacking. Maybe CPJ will find the hot button soon and we can start thinking of salvaging the season.

I'm really not though, that's the thing. This is not a spur of the moment response to losing to Miami.
