Florida State Seminoles are good but the Georgia Bulldogs are great so Tech had

slj, I didn't call you a dawg fan or anything else. My post to you and then the one to Ms. TA stand on their own. Your points about our offense seem to me to fall into the duh category, right in there with; "Let's score more points and it will be a good thing"...yeah,uh,okay.

As for reading comp., don't intend to embarrass here, but if you'll e-mail a few posters who have read your opening post, then my reply and ask em who is struggling with comprehension, I think you'll see things a little more clearly. THWG

I'm still confused about what ugag has done to be declared great. Are they 3 and 0? Yes. Have they beaten anybody good? No. Just my opinion but I think if we start with their schedule, we're 3 and 0, too.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I know you did not call me anything, someone else did. Obviously almost everyone is riled about my take on F$U. What really falls into the 'DUH' category is anyone expecting what failed against BYU in the second half to work against the Seminoles during the 3rd and 4th quarters. No use debating why we did not go for the 2 point conversion. Or why we did not go for the first down after we got the ball back after the Seminoles scored their first touchdown and it was 3rd and 6. We made no effort to hold onto the football at that point. One question: What would we be debating about if we did not have Jon Tenuta's defensive skills? Would you be calling Chan Gailey a great coach? I will note that almost nobody wants to claim George O'leary was a great coach because it was Ralph's offensive skills that brought us success. I do not wish to start the Chan vs. George argument to the forefront but to show how self serving opinions can be. Just like statistics, anyone can flip numbers or stretch an idea to suit their own opinion. I was not sold on F$U being back. It is on record here on Stingtalk and it got plenty of responses. I said that all in all this could be a memorable evening....and it should have been.
If the offense and kick coverages had been up to the challenge we would have won. The defense was something Joe Hamilton, George Godsey, Kelly Campbell and all the others could only have dreamed about having when they was here. Our offense, if it can be done needs a serious evaluation and see where we can go from here.

One request stateline, and I hope you take this the right way.

1. Try to say what you are trying to say in fewer words. I am ashamed to admit that I am a charter member of short attention span theater and if your post is more than 20 uninterrupted lines I cannot get myself to read it all.

2. On that note, be extra generous with the line breaks and paragraphs when you are changing direction even slightly.

Please take this the right way as a friendly suggestion and not as criticism.

And UGA deserves respect because they have played three games and have not been tested in the slightest. Don't underestimate that or pooh-pooh their opponents. Those are BCS conference teams over there in SC. An awful large number of the top 20 teams have been tested by less.

I just noted in another thread that we are ranked #112 in total offense in the latest NCAA Div 1 stats. How much improvement should the Georgia Tech fan expect Saturday against Clemson from on the offensive side of the ball and will it be enough to win?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">If we get 200 yds of offense and win 7-3 that would be good enough for me. Note: 90% of the posters on this board didn't give us a CHANce to be 2-2 after 4 games (even most of the FOCers).

I personally think FSU and UGA are national championship contenders. UGA may end their UF hex this year (remember, they had a 11 or 12 year losing streak to UT a couple years back).

UGA's win over South Carolina was impressive. But, South Carolina is a pretty good team and no more. I know they dominated Virginia. But, Virginia lost Schaub and the backup was horrible. Ask anyone who watched that game what happened and it will be UVA's QB who is mentioned first. I think UVA probably would have won with Schaub. That said, UGA is a contender with their stout D and explosive offense. They even look to be founding a pretty good running game contrary to expectations (Cooper looks good. Lumpkin got a couple of carries and looks explosive to me though he didn't break anything big).

As for FSU. They played a poor 1st half but came out of the gates physically dominating the 2nd half. Some of it has to do with depth, but some of it does not. Our offensive line went from pushing them around in the 1st half to be manhandled out of the gate after halftime. They are a vicious team just like the old days. I judge it by the violence of the collisions and they were savage.

stateline, just one point of clarification. One of the calls you've criticized is failure to go for the first down on 3rd and 6 after the first FSU TD. Well I've gone over the play by play and we didn't have a 3rd and 6. We had a 3rd and 12 at our own 18. Reggie had just been sacked on 2nd down.

It's easy to argue over what play might have worked, but I'm assuming Chan was worried about throwing the ball from that deep in our territory with the pressure FSU was bringing. With the way the D had been playing it seemed a safer bet to hope for a stop after the punt. Sometimes things don't work out, but if not for the breakdown in pass coverage on the 26 yarder to Robinson it might have worked as planned.

best get its ass in gear! Offensively to be more specific for two halves of football. Georgia would have kicked the ass of this F$U team in much the way it did in last years Sugar Bowl. Folks I posted a few days ago wandering about how good the Seminoles really are and now I can honestly say they are not title contenders this year. Their offense is better than Auburns but not by much. Their defense is very good of course, but just a smidgen better than ours. Our offense sucks even if Reggie Ball is impressive or not. Florida States just sucks a little less than ours, thats all. That damn BYU gameplan needs to be burned! Georgia is no F$U people. They are a far better bunch because they have an offense their asskicking defense can be proud of. The Seminoles are not back so we should not be patting ourselves on our backs but we should start wandering about this offense. Where is Demarius Bilbo and Reshaun Grant?!!!! They are not not on any injured list...just the wasting away on the bench list! This five and dime offense is dragging a terrific effort so far this year by the defense down into the dumps. Speaking of dumps what is it with the special teams tackling. We gave up far to much ground on kick offs and punts! That needs attention also. All an all I can say this was no moral victory. An A plus effort on defense means we should have won this game, just like last year. Chris Rix and Greg Jones have been exposed by our defense as mediocre at best. But Chan Gailey's and the offensive staff's efforts on that side of the ball are being exposed also. We stand a very good chance of winning the rest of our games because of that defense....right up to when Georgia comes to town. Holding Georgia under thirty points will be extremely difficult if our offensive staff does not get its ass in gear. Thats far better than last year of course but that still would mean we lose by four touchdowns.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">You obviously don't have a 24 hour rule. Your's is more like 24 seconds.

If you cannot temper your criticism with the praise that is due this team... you will be deemed a "jackass" by me. So stop acting like a jackass. That team played lights out and apparently you were the only one who missed it.
