Former FSU players sue coach over unpaid NIL

I'd tell them they get nothing and they'll like it unless there is some sort of contract, which obviously there isn't because anybody who signs a contract to give someone money without something in reciprocation in a business environment is an idiot.

As a matter of fact, get me a list of all the 5* players in the country, I'm gonna call and promise them all 20 million to play for tech next year if they win a natty.

This really isn't news to anyone who's been paying attention since TIX. But NIL paid from non-school sources is exempt from this comparison so chalk this up to a nothingburger. It will take the schools about 5 minutes to figure out how to 3-card-Monte around this.

All of this because the NFL is too greedy to set up their own minor league or development league. They just use colleges.

Tech should just set up a corporation, a separate entity, that runs the finances of the football team. Just set it up completely separate of the school. Hire the players as employees. They also happen to be enrolled at the school.

Push the system to the limit To show the absurdity and gain "unfair" advantage, then things might change to a more rational approach.

I personally favor having college ball be played by students, while "athletics only" types go minor league/ development league.

The NFL could easily set up such a league, hell, partner up with conferences to brand it... The ACC Yellow Flags vs SEC Speed on ABC, B-1-G faces the Pac2 Hope... etc

Schools could use the affiliation to offer work experience to students in the areas of Physiology, like Strength & Conditioning Training, Nutrition, Injury Recovery, etc

why not get the professional schools involved and you could offer Financial & Corporate Mgt, Marketing, Sports Law, Sports Medicine, ...

Graduated student-athletes could get coaching opportunities...

It's all out there!

None of these reported dollar amounts are real. They’re entirely made up and inflated by agents. Until there’s some sort of official system in place, no one has any idea what anyone is making. There’s a huge incentive to lie your ass off.
So then how do we know you're not an agent, lying your ass off?

Hmmm...

No one would watch. Secondary leagues have come and gone. College football is largely successful because of emotional connections fans have to their schools. The NFL has an unbeatable product on the field.

Basically no one watches the Developmental NBA or minor league baseball and the players make very little money.

Almost all of the value in college football is tied to the school NOT the players. People will pay a lot of money to help their team win. With the exception of a very small % of truly elite players, they are not paying the money because they are a fan of XYZ player.

What they need to do is just auction off the 12 playoff spots with the 4 highest bidders getting the byes. Instead of playing the games they should have the fan bases send in money and the team that raises the most money over the week wins and advances and repeat through the bracket until we get a champion. Getting one of the coveted bye spots means one less win to buy so better get the upfront money in.

If your old fashion and think they should still play a game then they could do that as well, but maybe have a call in number so people can buy points for their team. It will add another layer to strategy and make the gambling more interesting. Boise State might be up by 14 then a wave of Alabama money comes in to tie up the game, but Bose is still covering the spread so we are expecting some Vegas money to coming. Additionally, ESPN expects better ratings in the next round with a Bama victory so we expect them to come in late with Bama money to put them over if it is lose. Boise needs to pile it on if they are going to have a chance. If they are not winning by at least 10 in the final minutes, they probably do not have a chance.

This would much more honest way of doing things and raise more money.

You’ve been watching the exact opposite your entire life. You’ve already accepted it, but didn’t realize what you were watching until NIL woke most up. I’ve long ago accepted that college football was a fake sport with some teams having pro players and some teams having student players. Losses are fake and wins are fake. I still love the sport but I know it’s all a scam.

I have observed in, now culminating into irrational pseudo-conferences and NIL. Meanwhile, in all other sports it has gone the other way. Development leagues and junior or "alternate" pro leagues in bball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, etc

The NFL loves it, they save a lot of money. But it will happen eventually, imo. Then college ball maybe can stabilize - hopefully somewhere like it was in the 90s

Excellent satire. In the 70’s I had a subscription to the old National Lampoon. I’m sorry it as most magazines are gone as you could be the head writer.
