Friday Night Game

The percentage of kids playing for a free education in the college game is in the single digits. Nearly all of them think they can make the league. It’s a feel good (false) narrative for the fans to think they play for the love of the game. When coaches makes millions and schools millions with a sport, the amateurism you seem to espouse is long gone.
Sez you. Get to know some of our SA's and you'll change your mind.

If the kids are playing for a free education and the love of the game, don't you think all of the money generated ( and going to non playing adults) is distasteful?
The SA's get a pretty good deal, too.

There are things in football that should simply never happen.*

The NFL should never play on a day other than Sunday or Monday. The NFL should never, ever play on Thursday - that is reserved for college.

College should never, ever play on Friday night - that is reserved for High School.

But the NFL is playing on Thursday and college is playing on Friday. And its sad and desperate.

* Thanksgiving/post-season excepted.

There should be College games EVERY night of the week. Thats the best part of Bowl season.. a couple of years ago, there were games 20+ days in row.

So, you don't think GT is an outlier here? You have your head in the sand. The percentage of collegiate athletes playing for a free education in Div. I are in the single digits.

Sorry, if you don't understand that Div. I is big, big business. It's not 1956 anymore.

Who else is coming to the game? I'm planning on tailgating at Old Forrester and Evan Williams before the game. Some bourbon pre and post game will help make it more enjoyable :-D

Given that there won't be as much college football on TV that night, do you think this could provide us an unexpected recruiting opportunity? As in, how many high school eyeballs are watching Georgia Tech football that ordinarily would not.

Are you saying that at least 90% of FBS football players think they have a legit shot at the NFL? I seriously doubt that.

I overstated that upon referencing a few articles. Still, it's sad/silly/etc that the % is as high as it is.

I think that my broader point remains intact and my rebuttal to @18in32 , which is that the majority of the kids aren't there for the education--certainly not at the top power 5 schools.

Aren't most of the eyes we want to see us playing in games of their own Friday night?

Only the ones that are playing or the ones watching those high school games.

Don't know how we are favored. We need two touchdowns road disadvantage apparently no matter where we play.

The TL;DR for the first article is this: 75% of college basketball players and 52% of college football players think they will make it at the next level. Less than 2% of either actually do.

So 52 out of 100 think they are going to be one of the 2 out of 100 - seems like a light bulb would flicker on at some point.

The second article is interesting. TL;DR = Rosen, college star now in the NFL (and highly qualified student) says more or less that you don't have time for academics in college.
