Dolphins accelerate search

DAVIE -- The Miami Dolphins are moving quickly in their pursuit of a new coach to replace the departed Nick Saban.

On tonight's edition of Fox Sports Net's Pro Football Preview, which was taped Thursday, it was reported that former Dolphins offensive coordinator Chan Gailey and former Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora Jr. will interview for the position as early as today. Gailey is now the head coach at Georgia Tech.

Also mentioned on Sportingnews.com

...And another name won't go away: Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey. I had his name mentioned to me several weeks ago by a few sources. It's hard to argue with his resume.

There is noooooo way Chan Gailey would even interview for another position. This would be so disloyal to his "avid supporters".

Would his "avid supporters" be allowed to go as part of the package? If so, let them sign up here. :fingersx:

??? Why?

I would think that Gailey would be anxious to interview to get away from his loudmouthed know-it-all detractors posing as fans.

Interesting .....man this is some timing considering where we are in the midst of recruiting & on verge of signing the best class ever....Especially considering so many of these "verbals" are b/c they were so impressed w/ Chan & the coaching staff......wondering if this is just a rumor being circulated. If it's a rumor then Chan needs to make an announcement saying he's staying....We need these signatures on paper....!

Agreed ramblin-man, Gailey does not need to be out on the interview circuit just to make himself feel important, but then again,Gailey has never been known as a smart man.

I thought one of the talking points was that Tech was Gailey's dream job and he'd never leave it. I thought he was glad to be home, he preferred to coach up young men rather than overpayed prima-donnas, etc, etc, etc

Well, I think the concensus is that this would not result in an offer from the organization, but, I did find it curious and thought everyone would like to read it.

By a small group of GT fans with an agenda. One of the most prominent NFL franchises seems to think pretty highly of him (one that he previously worked for). I've checked some Miami message boards and their fans aren't revolted by the idea of him being on "the list".

Let's be honest, though, football coaches aren't paid to be intellectuals and very few of them are. I don't think Chan is mensa material, but he's no dumber than the average football coach.

Is interesting though, at times the loudest "general overall opinion" of GT supporters seemed to want Gailey gone...might be on the "verge" of getting their wish. Who would realistically replace the man on such short notice (if needed). What/how big of an impact would this have on this recruiting class?
This is intense, I was following the previous Alabama coaching search w/ amusement & glad we weren't in same situation....Now all of the sudden it's personal....
Especially since I believe the "dead period" of recruiting is over today. Isn't it?

As I've stated many times, I was personally disappointed when Chan Gailey was hired as the head football coach at Georgia Tech five years ago.

Valid point 'ramblin_man', I don't think you really want to lose your head coach right now, unless Dan Rad has a heck-uv-a back-up plan in place.

I saw a press conference with Wayne Huizinga yesterday where he was publicly asking for opinions or ideas on filling his sudden head coaching vacancy ...I bet Taz has been on the phone with him since last night.

IF this did happen, and its a big IF, I think JT would get the nod. Its so late in the game and it was a bad year for hiring coaches anyways. Who knows, let the dice roll and we'll see what happens.

So, you want to see a large chunk of the GT fan base leave? There's a good idea. I mean, we're already over-booking all of our games so who needs the extra fans.

hmmmmmm....

Isn't Ken Weisenhunt in town?

Just askin'...

I think he's in Arizona today. Then, Pittsburgh again. Then, Miami as well.
