Gailey to interview with Dolphins

That's why if Chan leaves the JT should get a 3 year deal. Bring in a QB coach or a OC. I believe the majority of the players will sign, you might lose one or two but that's not as hard of a hit.

All I know is that the coaches better be on the phone to these kids to explain the situation. You know the nad lickers and others are talking to them right now.

3.... that's not a big #. I'm sure there are more than 3 who came because of other coaches wouldn't you say?

depends on which 3 it was....
I don't want to lose any of our verbals....

Those are the three I personally know of..

There certainly are more. Additionally, If Chan goes you will have assistant coaching turnover unless Tenuta is named Head Coach. Assistant coaching turnover will be bad for this year's recruiting. If Chan leaves this class will likely take a hit.

Could they not have waited two freakin' weeks to pull this crap? Then we'd at least have the recruits in writing. That said, I'd then feel bad for the recruits if there was no "pull-out" clause for a coach's leaving.

Recruits are taken care of guys...no worries. This appears to be more of a courtesy to WH than anything else. Again...all recruits are taken care of.

Secondly...you guys have to trust me on this one...Tenuta is NOT a head coach by any stretch...he could not handle it. He makes Ralph Friedgen look like Ghandi. He is an isolationist...but is tolerated around the GTAA because he is a good coordinator.

I've heard the same thing--a bit too unpolished to be the face of a D-I program.

Kind of funny they said exactly the same things about Ralph and George. In my mind JT is very similar. A disciplinarian who takes care of his guys. He very much mirrors George and Ross in his persona. I have always thought that Tech needs more or disciplinarian that a good guy due to the academic rigors. He is seperate from the program everybody knows that. He is not CG's choice. They way he runs his defense tells me he has a good shot at being a good head coach. Will he be great in front of the mic and at GT alumni clubs, I doubt it. That will not matter if he brings his demeanor and attitude to the entire team.

Anybody besides Chan would bring the fan base back together and create some excitement around GT locally and with the alumni base.

Prevent you don't remember what they said about Ralph and GOL when Ross left and they were interviewed for the job. The very same things. They were not rumors then either. Then we hired the guy who said all the right stuff and was great in front of the alumni, Lewis. History does always repeat itself though doesn't it, lol.

You really think the Dolphins would hire Chan Gailey after the last time he was in the NFL- Dallas as HC and Dolphins as Off Coord? Thats the reason he's in college in the first place- Then again he' definitely still more of an NFL type person anyways. I wouldnt worry about a thing just yet. This happens to all coaches who are decent, especially those who had former ties to a program

I do because of his knowledge of that particular organization. He was a mediocre not terrible head coach in the pros. The Dolphin team is talented. If they have Culpeper this year they make the playoffs. Chan could get them there next year. Matter of fact I will step out on a limb and say he could do the same thing for the Falcons or the Steelers as well. He is one of the few. He knows how to get a team to 9-7. Now will he get them to the Super Bowl... no way. But as a temporary until WH can find the coach of his dreams he makes a nice fill in for 2 to 4 years and then he retires.

I agree. My point as well- There is nothing wrong with someone looking if they have an interest. I dont care if Chan says this is his last stop ever- I dont ever believe a coach because its ridiculous for them to say that. In this day and age, there is no such thing as loyalty unfortunately therefore the expectations shoudnt be loyalty. Ralph really got a token interview, it came down to O'Leary and Lewis and Lewis had the Powerpoint and flipcharts and a GT tie. Oleary had his golf shirt on. And Rice admitted within 2 1/2 years he made a mistake (of course Rice was sick back then and allowed Cremins to come back as well)

Again JT's rage issues make Friedgen and O'Leary look like St. Francis.

It was a miracle that the Cowboys made the playoffs under Gailey. The didn't go the year before he was there and they didn't go after he left. That team was done. Likewise they Dolphins made it with him as OC with Fiedler at QB. How unlikely is that?

Gailey's approach is built for the pro game. He's John Fox all over again.

This is the one thing that is worrisome. This is very true. The players and parents LOVE Chan despite what many of his detractors would say, and if he does leave it could be real tough on whomever comes into replace him.

Always is tough. But at GT, we will never be a destination job- never have, never will- so Im ready for a change. I would be more than willing if Im D'rad to watch the fax machine light up with resumes, narrow it down to those he thinks can recruit our caliber players, and who can take us to the next level at least 1 out of 5 years. Im willing to always take a step back to do that-because those are the facts. If Gailey doesnt leave, he has got to do 2 things at 50+ years of age: Make better game tactical decisions as he should if he has truly given up the OC job and 2, understand that there are 3 parts all equal to the game and the one he doesnt get is special teams (thank god we have Brooks who was a gift.) Clearly these 2 things have been a reccurring nightmare. Ill grant Nix a year of playcalling with a 6foot+ QB- to be fair, but thats all he gets. If he does well then great!

I think that is pure BS Prevent. You can find the right fit in a coach who looks at Atlanta and GT as the final destination. Think about it. You have one of the CLASSIC college coaching jobs in a big City Market with a fan base who doesn't expect perfection all the time but at least wants to beat one particular school AND have one special season littered between every 4 or so seasons. I think its a job where someone can come in and feel at home in this environment and do well.

Not all coaches want to Coach in the NFL .

but...without a doubt...VERY FEW want to put up with the academic restrictions (including lack of degree availability) while also being expected to run a clean off the field program and win championships.

I had two past GT assistants tell me (face to face)..."at least at 'X school' I will not have to worry about academics anymore...just football."
