Gailey's stubborness.

Suggs, Ball, and now Bennett ...it suggests to me one of two things--Gailey has unbelievable and unearned loyality to the QB he ordains as the starter---or that our cupboard is so bare and has been for his whole tenure, that the poorly performing QB is the only option he has. I'll repeat my question: if TB had played more last year when Reggie was stinking it up, would he be a better QB today?
Look back at last year's results. When was Reggie stinking it up bad enough to pull him for TB?

Close loss to ND on a bad call.
Win the next 5, averaging over 30 a game, and going 3-0 in conference (including the VPISU win).
Bad loss to Clempsin.
Win the next 4, averaging 30 a game, to move to 7-1 in conference, win the division to go to the ACCCG.
Lose to UGA(g) on a drive that takes up most of the 4th quarter.
REGULAR SEASON OVER, 9-3

I'm not saying he played great, but the team was winning and TB was an unknown quantity. Do you throw him in and risk losing the division for the sake of gaining experience for this year? Then, you might have thrown away last seasons run at the BCS, which didn't disappear until late in the game at Jax. Now, you want to already potentially throw away this season to change QBs again, when both TB & JN need playing time and TB is your starter.

The way to develop consistency at QB isn't to jump from one to another. It is to let the underclassmen learn the system, get some playing time, and step in when they have proven themselves to be superior to the starter. JN hasn't done that yet, and neither has Booker apparently.

Didn't you see the ACCCG?? It was absolutely stupid not to play TB for at least one series with the way RB played in the 2nd half.

Yes, I was there. I saw it. Tie game at halftime. 3 point lead with 14 minutes to play. Given what you've seen from TB this season (or the 4th quarter of the Gator Bowl), how can you say it was stupid not to play him? And how exactly would that have given him that much more experience heading into this season? It would have been stupid to play a sophomore with virtually no game experience in the middle of a playoff game to decide who goes to the Orange Bowl, when one mistake likely loses it.

Clapper, I'd agree if Bennett could have possibly played any worse, which was unfortunately impossible.

Do I need to recount Reggie's stat line vs UGA again, as a reminder? How he was responsible for a net gain of 1 yard per point he giftwrapped to UGA? How he actually would have been more productive to just spike every pass attempt instead of even trying to throw the ball?

Aren't there big concerns regarding Nesbitt's throwing abilities? Its great to see a QB take off on the ground and break a game wide open, but after 4-years of RB I have a very sour taste in my mouth when it comes to athletic QB's with suspicious arms. And sorry if my confidence in our coaches ability to develop a QB is in shambles.

He's only thrown one pass in a game that I remember and it wasn't a beauty. Hopefully he will get more opportunities.

BJ, I'd agree if the score was out of line and we needed a comeback, but people screaming to put in an unproven underclassman on a 9-2 (and then 9-3) team that is carrying a lead into (or taking the lead in) the 4th quarter is not only unrealistic, but absurd. They claim that there were times during last season when Reggie should have been pulled, but nobody was going to take him out after the ND game. Then, we won five in a row before losing and going on another 4 game win streak. At that point, no matter how unproductive your starter has been you can't justify pulling him in you two biggest games of the year, when you are leading with under 15 minutes to play both times.

And with what we've seen from TB so far this season, it may not have been worse, but it wasn't likely to be better.

Spurrier recruits better QBs.

at UF maybe, but up until Smelley (if you even want to call him a good QB) he hasn't had much of anybody. Point being, he isn't scared to yank his starting QB at any point in any game.

I was there too and it became apparent to me and everyone around me that we weren't going to score the winning TD with RB in the game in the 4th quarter. The bowl game proved that TB could possibly have contributed and should have been played at lest one series.

4-9 with an interception in the fourth quarter of the Gator Bowl when we were trying to rally proves he shouldn't have been given the ball.;)

Ain't hindsight great?

Um...didn't TB have more yards in that one game than Reggie had in the previous 3 combined? Didn't he give Calvin his career best game?

RB was just plain terrible and I don't think it would've been possible for Taylor to have done any worse. Also, see Clemson and UGA games.

The ACCCG was probably the single worst football game I have ever seen in my entire life, Junior Varsity included. My friend literally fell asleep in the stands in the 4th qtr...IN THE RAIN!

We must be watching different teams. TB's best games have certainly been better than RB's worst games. That is the point.

FWIW, I also think I am in the majority who would take TB + CJ over RB + CJ after seeing both at their best and worst. TB without CJ is working without the safety net. Still, TBs worst game hasn't approached RBs worst game.

TB's worst games were just low completion percentage games. RB's were multipls INTs + -50 rushing yards from sacks + 30% completion percentage.

Since beej hasn't done it yet, I will.

Reggie vs. UGA last year:
Passing: 6-22, 42 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT
Rushing: 11 carries, -10 yards, and a fumble that led directly to a UGA TD

So we had 3 turnovers, all of which can be directly attributed to Reggie Ball.

Meanwhile, Choice had 23 carries for 146 yards. If Bennett just came in and handed off to him every play that probably accounts for all our turnovers right there.

Against Wake, his rushing was a little better, but his passing line was still dreadful:
9-29, 129 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT

So in two games, he had 5 turnovers and a combined 29.4% passing (15-51).
