If you’d been paying attention, you’d know that Duke has made big strides in the last several years. This isn’t the same old Duke that teams would schedule for Homecoming to ensure a W.

Duke outspends GT in football now. Duke has more recruiting personnel than GT now.

GT has to pick it up on the funding side and with recruiting. The former helps with the latter, and the money comes from fans. So, look in the mirror.
Duke outspends because nobody wants to support a coach who loses to Duke regularly.

I’ll put it to you this way. We are 1-4 against Dook the past 5 years. A talented team would put away Dook like we did in 09 every single time. Now, we can’t even beat them consistently.

And here we are comparing ourselves to Dook. Sad.
These are the results we deserve

We allowed a HC and his "system" to be more important than the overall State of the FB Program

After the first 2 years our FB Program slowly bled talent, yet folks didn't want to listen to, nor believe those that recognized that we were slowly bleeding talent, in fact on many GT FB msg boards those that saw what was happening talent-wise were vilified, ridiculed, attacked and in some cases banned

Now here we are after an 11 yr abyss where we wandered the CFB landscape with an identity that was only attractive to elderly alums, Service Academies, and lower rated Recruits with little NFL aspirations

Seriously, what did we think was going to happen, I mean as much as GT Alums brag about their big brains how could we not see what was coming?

It has never been a money issue or an academics issue, it has always been an issue of making our FB Program attractive to HS Recruits

Atlanta,GA is perceived as the place to be for an 18-23 yr old-- until you step on GT's campus, that is 100% GT's fault, not the AJC & Bark Madly, not Shapiro & Sports Talk Radio, that is OUR FAULT

Imagine if GT was located in Athens and UGA was located in Midtown, think about the ways that UGA would use that to their advantage and the ways that we haven't used it to our advantage

Everything that has hurt GT FB going back to when Dodd was AD has been SELF INFLICTED by GT's own poor decisions

We refuse to own up to these poor decisions and instead throw out the same tired excuses that make us feel good about ourselves (academics, everyone else is cheating, the NCAA hates us, those idiot rednecks donate too much of their money to stupid stuff like IPTAY, these other schools are misguided to invest in great facilities instead of engineering labs, and the list goes on)

To paraphrase CGC how GT does anything is how GT should do everything

If we're going to offer a world class 2nd to none education, then we should pursue a world class 2nd to none Athletic Program

REAL WINNERS LIKE TO WIN AT EVERYTHING THEY DO

At some point we need to ask ourselves are we real winners, or are we phonies that simply talk big and complain a lot

I think Joe Hamilton would call this, "nut cuttin' time" for GT FB & the GTAA

Yep.

Also, D-Rad was a Clempsun special agent.

These dishonest Duke rants are really annoying. Why do you choose to focus on our record against Duke? The answer is that most people still think of Duke as the conference patsy that never beats anyone, so it is an effort to degrade our program by exploiting an old inaccurate prejudice. As noted above you could easily choose to talk about our record against VT, but that would not fit your narrative, because people still think of VT as a conference contender instead of a team in decline. The only thing that is sad is the fact that you choose to use dishonesty to undermine the program that you claim to support.

It has never been a money issue
LOL.

Money is the most important part of sustainable success in team sports at any level above rec leagues.

You went full moron with the above statement - never go full moron. Leave that part out and you have a pretty good troll.

What’s dishonest about it? And how am I undermining the program?

VT doesn’t fit the narrative because they’re being led by someone even more incompetent than PJ. They don’t count.

Duke is a great comparison because we almost hired Cutcliffe. He was there as long as PJ. Out of nowhere he just starts beating PJ?

And just a little FYI, Duke still is the conference patsy.

LOL. You aren't really paying attention if you think Duke is the conference patsy. You are cherry-picking our record against one opponent to make an exaggerated claim against the state of our program. Duke has played in more bowl games in the last several years than they played over the 65 year period prior to that, and won their last 3. They have as many division championships as Miami. If you want to criticize the Tech football program, there is nothing wrong with that; we'd all like to be better. But using Duke to make your point is a cheap shot that undermines your credibility.

Imagine comparing yourself to Dook football and thinking that is ok. Get a hold of yourself, man.

The state of our program has been in shambles since the 3 win season. 3 wins.

Three wins. Same number Ross won two years before the MNC. Didn't the last team to beat both Clemson and uga lose to Duke?

Yeah I think that's the same year we barely beat two FCS teams, beat em by an average of 8 points. ööööing stellar öööö right there. Championship program level winning.

P5 CFB is much different than MBB in that after improving a recruit's chances at the NFL the next thing that influences a recruit's decision is the ability to play close to home, not booster club money or expensive facilities

GT is in the middle of maybe the most fertile recrootin grounds in all of CFB, the TALENT is nearby and our location should be attractive to elite Recruits

When Dodd was AD, Atlanta Metro was maybe 1 Million ppl, now we're at 7 Million & growing, GA was once among the lowest States in the Deep South for teacher salaries, now we're the top State in the Deep South for teacher salaries, this leads to more Academic Qualifiers statewide

T Boone Pickens has given Okie State a blank check, but his billions makes no difference because OK is a small population State and there isn't enough leftovers from Texas HSs for them to win big

Once again money isn't the magic bullet the GT excuse makers like to use

Easy Academics, many schools like the ones in Mississippi, S Carolina et al will never sniff a CFP or Championship cause the low population of their States don't produce enough elite talent regardless of how generous their admission offices are

Take tons of money and throw it at Iowa or some other school in a sparsely populated State and they won't win jack

We at GT are in a great position to go on a run of eliteness, but we have too many Alums that focus on what aren't and what we don't have rather than focusing on what WE ARE and what we DO HAVE

Lotsa Athl Depts have big money but have no chance or little chance to make the CFP

I have a idea to solve all of GT's Athletic problems

Instead of fielding Teams that our Alums are proud of, maybe the GTAA should field teams that THE REGION (Metro ATL & N GA) are proud of

It seems that what satisfies the typical GT Alums falls far short wrt wins & losses than what CFB fans in the Region expect from their favorite team

Once again money & academics is proven to be a convienent crutch without addressing the real issues

Duke was 3-5 in the ACC in 2018 and got ass-raped by Wake 59-7. Duke sucked but still crushed us. Stop selling the old 'scheme isn't at fault' narrative. PJ is gone. time to move on and time to beat Duke again.
Stop the lame excuses.

I count DU's overall record the last 4 full years as 27-24 overall and 11-21 in conference. Whether that is your idea of a doormat or of a mediocre team is your business, but contentment at losing to a team at that level is not what I want to feel. I believe that is accepting mediocrity for us, and the whole rationale for firing a coach who never had a losing season at GT was an aversion with accepting mediocrity.

Has our fan base become what they hate?

Anyway, I am excited about the chance that we will find consistent excellence again. The tools we will use to get there are
° improved jimmy and joes
° improved player development
° sound proven schemes appropriate when you are either ahead or behind
° full effective use of practice time for all players, both offensive or defensive
° increased sense of family within the team

Based on what I personally see and actions and comments of members of the team, we are making real progress in all the above areas.

It may take one year, two years, three years, or four years, but I don't see what would stop us from returning to at least O'Leary levels and possibly beyond.

Consistent excellence.

And not accepting losing to a conference rival at DU's level.

I supported Ross at the time because he was taking over a program in shambles and I saw his actions those first two years were sound. That patience won dividends.

Our mediocrity the last 4 years are solely the responsibility of CPJ. We appeared in a deteriorating glide path with no reason to expect another fluke Orange Bowl surrounded by mediocrity before and after it.

There is hope for better days ahead, if we are not too rigid and dogmatic in our thinking.
