Georgia Tech Athletics Unveils Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Pledge

I simply stated that these teams have a majority of athletes who are black and that they need to be heard. I never said they all think or believe the same thing. I am very interested in how our student athletes view issues regarding racial justice. If you feel better calling that racism, so be it.

Ok, I may have been hyperbolic.

But you are wrong, as you can see from the language of the statement. A student athlete that wanted to campaign against gay marriage would be violating the premises of the program, according to the GTAA.

Let's get real – our country has no shortage of diversity, no shortage of independent political thought, ample opportunity for any student to get involved in any political or social movement he wants to. Colleges are hotbeds of political activism and unrest, and have been for centuries. The problem isn't that kids have no way to get involved – the problem is that these programs / initiatives / statements are trying to promote a certain vision of diversity that is actually ideologically uniform.

This isn't about giving kids something they otherwise don't have – it's about using the institutional power of CFB to push a certain political agenda. It's definitely making me rethink my GTAA donations.
Making? How about has. If Tech AA has enough money on its hands where people are being paid to sit around and think about and do stuff like this, it doesn’t need my money.

Sealed the deal with me. Already given up on the NFL and NBA because the sport has become a platform for a social agenda. I do not need that. Now, it has filtered down to the college level. Buy your $5 button and wear it proudly. Going to make the Pitt and Duke games only because I did not opt out this year but that is it for me. Will still root for the Jackets but do not need the AA to try and force a certain social consciousness on me.

I don't think they are that worried about your money. But if they hadn't virtue signaled this way they may have been cut out of the potential corporate money the BLM grift has exposed as available to progressive organizations.

It may also have some value as a recruiting Propaganda tool.

We really should have a unity pledge. Something that demonstrates our commitment to liberty for every group, even if we aren’t there yet.

Surely our pro athletes could take the lead on this. We could even do it every morning in our schools. That way our children would understand the commitment.

I’m thinking something like:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Atheists are free to skip the God part. Poly theists can make it plural.

I was just invited to a workshop on racist pedagogy at another university. I would learn about the impact of white supremacists on my teaching (didn’t know there was any, never been associated with that sort of thing, have a diverse multi-ethnic family). Universities are all over this. It’s fine, apparently things need to change, but you wouldn’t believe the admin losers driving it. Whatever mental image of university admin you have, except for pockets here and there, the clown show is much worse than you would imagine. Part of it btw is the growing “student is the client” trend.

I am just a sidewalk fan but I consider myself a loyal one. Closet full of GT attire and proud flag waver Have a great daughter who is a GT grad and former athlete at GT. I have traveled to many away games from the rain of Boston to the heat of Tulane and the freezing Orange Bowl. I have already disconnected from my own University that I graduated from for all the social justice warrior BS. I assumed as a sidewalk fan I could leave this topic to the alums with deeper connections. So far so good but I admit they are close to running me off as well. There comes a point where maybe these guilt ridden idiots realize they need us fans more than we need them. My two cents.

To create an environment that allows individuals to reach and exceed their potential, we must not only be committed to our core values of teamwork, character, excellence and innovation, but also stand committed to the ideals of diversity, equity and inclusion. By committing to these ideals, we hope to help create a world where all people – regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability – are judged solely by the content of their character, and where our experience in athletics can serve as an example to others who may never have experienced the power of diversity and the magic of team.

I agree that people should be judged for the content of their character, but that goal is at odds with seeking equity.
