Geoff Collins talked about taking Georgia Tech back to the national conversation and being relevanent again after being hired and basically eluded to the fact the reason why Tech wasn't winning more games was due to their offense.

Looking back to 2012 we can see that CPJ avg 7.3 games per year on National TV, while CGC has avg only 3.3 games are on National TV. ( Not RSN, SECN, ACCN, Ballys)
{https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/college-football-tv-ratings/}

What does that mean? On Dec 17, 2013 the final ratings from the 2013 regular season of college football were released. Georgia Tech came in 45th with 1,496,000 viewers.
{https://www.goodbullhunting.com/201...ball-tv-ratings-2013-regular-season-final-sec}

Between 2015-2019 Georgia tech lost TV viewers as they dropped to 56th with 615K viewers{}

In 2021 Georgia Tech lost even more viewers as they 61st with 459K viewers. {}

Again what does this mean? Only two previous Tech coaches started with three consecutive losing seasons. Bud Carson, who succeeded Dodd, was 12-18 after Year 3. Bill Lewis, who succeeded Bobby Ross, was 11-19 when he resigned under pressure. Collins is 9-25. In his first season his team lost to Virginia Tech by 45 points. His second season his team lost to Clemson by 66. Last season his team lost to Notre Dame by 55. For Geoff Collins’ #404Takeover to have any hope of occurring, the gap must narrow. It’s hard to imagine it narrowing enough for Tech to stand a chance vs UGA anytime soon, but it would be nice to see GT be competitive for at least a half maybe even an entire game. How deep is the divide vs UGA? On Nov 26, 2021 the Bulldogs rank first in ESPN’s football power index; Tech was 79th. UGA was also first in Bill Connelly’s SP+ ratings; Tech was 85th. Georgia was also first in Brian Fremeau’s efficiency ratings for Football Outsiders; Tech was 89th. Everyone saw the results: UGA 45 GT 0

Winning Cures Everything! As Coach Collins loses his TV viewership and season ticket holders, the question becomes how many winning seasons does it take to get the season ticket holders & viewership back?

It means the transition was as painful as everyone outside the fanbase predicted it would be. It is what it is
Great Point! I think if we can win 5- 6 games this year, the heat cools down. It will be interesting if TV veiwership comes back.

I know that all of College football has taken a hit but what was eye opening to me was this:

2013: 1.4M GT TV viewers
2019: 615K GT TV viewers
2021: 459K GT TV Viewers

that is a loss of 1M in 7 years. I wonder how much is that do to Geoff Collins not being able to back up all the talk he did when he arrived or a combo of cord cutters and the Collins factor.

Next we’ll get an analysis of popcorn sales in the stadium
Pretty sure that when Collins took the reigns, popcorn sales began to plummet and are much lower than when Johnson was head football coach at Georgia Tech.

But with Geoff Collins at the helm, popcorn sales have taken a steep drop and it remains to be seen, in spite of all the hype, that popcorn sales will ever return to the glory days they enjoyed under former head coach of Georgia Tech, Paul Johnson.

Curious what you guys think? Will we ever see popcorn sales like that again or will all of us go to our graves never seeing popcorn sales like that again. What do you guys think?

Not sure, but I do know one thing! Beer sales at Bobby Dodd will increase no matter who the coach is, ok maybe I should see how many Tech faithful show up this year. But in 2020 & 2021 Beer sales increased!

When did beer sales start?

So beer sales went up in 2020? The same year beer sales started?

Well I was trying to be positive, but to be techinical before 2020, alcohol could only be purchased in premium-seating areas. So Yes 2020 saw an increase by going from premium seating to the entire stadium! Go Jackets!

There will be supply chain shortages of popcorn anyway so probably just as well that we don't need so much.

You thought I was kidding?

Here we go again. Another post, another flawed statistical analysis. Aren't you a data analyst?

This is driven entirely by # of games televised in this guy's (incorrect) data set. The article you link explicitly states that games with no data count as 0 in his analysis. You'll also note that ACCN isn't listed. So all those previous games that were on ESPNU are now on ACCN. 2013 for example then goes to 483k viewers for the regular season. OMG, Paul Johnson should've been fired!!!! Oh wait, no, it's just flawed analysis to give another reason for you to bitch about CGC. Yeah, I want him fired too, but I don't start a new thread about it every week to show my ass.

ööööing do better stats, man, it's every single thread with you.

So what the hell are we supposed to munch on during the upcoming epic StinGTalk meltdowns and fights this fall?? :popcorn2:

I can dig into RSN ratings if you like. But the bottomline is that Georgia Tech is no longer a draw for TV audiences. Wake Forest Football is a stronger brand than Georgia Tech thanks to decision made to hire Geoff Collins. Georgia Tech, which is No. 1 with 24 RSN games over the last five years only confirms this! Add in 10 ACC Network games it is clear that we are only on ESPN/ABC when we play a team that draws an audience.

When you’re bad and the games don’t matter, you get relegated to lower tier networks. That’s hardly a surprise. We probably also have a unique disadvantage in that we don’t “own” our home market, and our alumni fanbase isn’t concentrated in a particular area.

I don’t know how to start to do an apples-to-apples comparison of TV viewership - there are too many variables to account for there, like overall viewership trends, number of other games available to watch, network and network availability, etc.
