Good game today

We are improving.

I am excited about us in a year or two.

I have 2 examples from the other teams I root for.

The U of Minnesota doesn't have anything in terms of advantages that we don't. We are a similar big city team in a better city for CFB. It all turns on how good our HC is.

I also root for Arkansas. That is what a real mistake looks like. We are nothing like that.


Also:
Given the ACC we don't exactly have to be worldbeaters to be the clear 2nd best program in the conference. It's not like we are trying to compete in the SEC West or the Big 10 East.

I liked your first four and last six words.

Everything else belonged on the cutting room floor. We have watched a young team develop and grow together, despite crippling injuries. This is a tremendous credit to the entire coaching staff.

I think there has been subtle improvement in varying parts of the team since the Citadel debacle. Today the team, offense in particular, took an obvious giant step forward.
 
I can see the vision, which is part of the reason I’m giving CGC, coach Pat, etc a lot of rope. Happy with the trajectory, despite the loss. Recruiting has been as strong as advertised. The on field results will catch up in time.
 
The offense is showing signs of improvement, but special teams continues to kill us. The missed FG, the poor kick coverage before the half which led to a TD (that was the difference in the game), the punt fielded inside our own 2, etc. Considering how much emphasis CGC puts on special teams, you’d think we’d be better there. And I love the speed and aggressiveness the defense plays with most downs, but they can’t seem to get off the field on 3rd and long. That bit us bad today.

The announcers said 71 players made the trip and 14 were walk-ons. We are banged up and it is showing on defense but I love the fact that the team appears to still have their heads in the season. There are plenty of 2 win teams that would just mail it in the rest of the way. It looks like these guys know they need to make an impression on the staff since more competition is coming in next year.
 
At this point I think the only thing I'll say needs to improve immediately is clock and timeout management. Hire an intern and give them the button for a shock collar if you have to. There's a pattern here and it may cost us a close game when we're on our way to the CFP.

Other than that, all things considered, even Patenaude is growing on me. It's easy to forget how few seniors we have and how many upperclassmen are out with injuries. It's a huge credit to the staff to see young players rallying and playing this hard. And getting better all the time.

I think Stansbury made a dynamite hire and we may be a lot better in year 2 than I was thinking.

This is why our goal should be to equal the leader of the SEC east. That would make the ACC Coastal a cake walk.
 
I thought we were gonna get buttpunched. We did ok.

We have improved. Then again, it is mid November.

IIWII, never as good or as bad as it seems.

Feb 2020 is when the real evaluation of Collins begins.
 
Offense is showing improvement, but the defense is operating at a deficit on money down today against the French. Could have won that game today, which is an advancement.
 
I also think it was our best game of the year. Graham played well although couple of bad plays and receivers were pretty good except Carter probably missed one. Special teams were dreadful. Kickoff before half just awful and other kickoffs not much better. Missed FG. Too many short punts - Harvin was not good either. Catching the punt on 1. Disappointed we can't clean up some of these things.

With these negatives, there were a bunch of positives - 1. oline did a good job and 2 secondary made some nice tackles 3. jordan always tough and 4 passing game much improved.
 
this is the performance from Graham I expected to see last week, with a week of bye week practice.
we have some playmakers - Graham, Brown, Mason and Oliver, in particular. We still need to find a way to get Tobias touches. Same with Brown.
But ... UVa is a one trick pony on offense. granted, that pony is a thoroughbred. But other than Perkins tucking and running, their run game is crap. That run right before halftime gave me Woody Dantzler flashbacks. For you young'uns, that's not a good thing. I was pleased we were able to keep Hanback and Snowden off Graham for most of the day. That worried me a lot coming in. UVa's secondary was pretty bad. They've been decimated with injuries and if Bryce Hall were healthy, they'd have put him on Brown after the mismatch of Brown versus a safety on the first deep throw. He made very subtle really good catch. Not the great adjustment on the TD throw at Miami but a good grab nonetheless.
This was a winnable game. But better teams than this Tech team have gone to Charlottesville and come home on their shield rather than with it. I still have my doubts on CGC as an in-game coach.

We should be running several smoke screens a game for them.
 
Graham throws such a nice deep ball--once he gets the touch down on the medium throws, look out. I think he could be our best QB since Super Joe. Brown & Tobias need more touches.

Kids haven't quit. Credit to the coaching staff for getting them to keep playing hard.

Next 2 games look winnable with similar effort.

The deep ball looks nice, but I'm still confused about the pick he threw. My memory might be a little fuzzy but he threw that into double coverage and both guys in coverage had their backs to the end zone waiting for the ball while Brown was still running and looking for it. Seems like it was either underthrown or should have been closer to the sideline
