Sounds like the ACC championship will not be returning to Jacksonville next year.

http://www.charlotte.com/panthers/story/401520.html

The article speculates that Swofford may decide not to decide and alternate the game between Charlotte and Tampa.

That would be stupid IMHO, Charlotte seems like the best choice to try to up the attendance. Tampa is a more attractive destination than Jax, but even worse in terms of travel distance for most schools.

At least the problem of the ACCG loser returning for the Gator Bowl won't exist any longer.

I would rather have Tampa

Charlotte weather could SUCK in the early weeks of december

secondly with swofford being in north carolina's (the state not the school) bed he will move to charlotte...oh well

Sounds like he's doing this to give each city a chance..instead of putting all his marbles in one basket and having it go belly up(see: Jacksonville)

I'm sure if one city has a turnout thats leaps and bounds above the other he will stick with that one.

Whatever we do, I feel we need to make a FINAL decision on this ASAP.

We have to establish some semblance of tradition with our league's biggest game of the year.

So far it has been crap.

Move it to Charlotte.

Tampa would make it worse for teams in the north, and it wouldn't matter that much for FSU or Miami. I don't understand why it's being considered, since they are making the change to have a larger attendance next time.

awesome. Jacksonville sucks. the most boring city I've ever been.

Charlotte is by far the best bet, especially if you want to get locals without connections to either team to come. There is really no major college football events at all in NC. They have a few small bowl games and that's it. They would be able to sell a ton of corperate tickets and stuff like that in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and the Raleigh area. Tampa is a decent option but is not very central to the conference, and Jacksonville has the cocktail party as its big college football event. And as for the weather, well it is FOOTBALL in December! It is supposed to be COLD! And Charlotte is just as sunny as any other City.

yes it isn't any better for the VT's, MDs, UVAs of the world. But, the tampa general populous is a better football town, and the issue with the ACCCG has been sidewalk ticket sales as much or more than location.

Charlotte does sort of seem to be the center of the ACC universe. The game would most likely play there the best. Dome or no dome.

Even for FSU, the drive to Tampa would be very long. For anybody else except Miami and maybe GT, the drive would be out of the question.

Tampa's also a UF town through and through, much like JAX. FSU will get a lot fans but that's about it.

Football was meant to be played in the cold anyway. In may mind, the one thing the NFL has over college football is its tradition of snowy playoff games.

There is absolutley ZERO to do in Charlotte...a terrible "vacation" draw...particularly in early December.

They have to figure out how to do it in Atlanta to guarantee success...but that is tough with the SEC game there on Saturday night...unless they did the ACC game on Friday night?

i doubt the ACCCG will get many sidewalk fans regardless of where they go. Nobody cares about ACC football. Why do you think we in a time slot, on championship weekend, competing against the Midwest Sunbelt (or whatever) conference championship game?

No point to go over the weather thing again. You guys are engineers. Go look at the data.

Move the game to Charlotte so the fans can go to the game. Why is this so difficult?

I think the move to Charlotte makes the most sense. Heck 4 of the ACC teams are in NC. The corporate aspect is a great consideration considering all the big companies in the area. Also Atlanta is close enough for them to draw corporate support.

Another city to consider would be Nashville (Great place to visit and a fun town). Atlanta could be a choice except for the redneck bowl. But it could be a workable situation. And of course Jax.

Some mileage numbers to think about. The average travel distance for each school to Charlotte is 325 miles, Atlanta 439, Jax 519, and Nashville 563.

It will be interesting to see what the ACC comes up with. They could offer a package of the Basketball and Football Championships in order to sweeten the deal. Just a thought.

If the ACC tries to have it's game in Atlanta along with the SEC's, then all of a sudden we're just a little brother following big brother around everywhere, wanting to do everything he does. No good. We need our own identity. If it comes to that, then just have the game at someone's home field, like a playoff game. (CUSA does that)

I agree but why not have the good ol' boys at the Dome simply kick out da redneck bowl? :D

Charlotte has a better more central bar/night scene than does Atlanta or Tampa. If you want to go out in Atlanta you first of all wont be anywhere near the stadium as everything is in highlands, midtown, and scattered all over town. Tampa's stadium isn't even in the downtown area. Charlotte has a dense bar/night club area within SAFE walking distance to the stadium. Plus charlotte has a better airport and is accustomed at hosting large sports events as it has to host several Nascar events a year and those events are typically attended by well over 100,000 people every time. Charlotte also has a bigger airport than Tampa and better transportation infrastructure with less traffic than Atlanta. Plus the Georgia Dome is just flat UGLY! Have you seen it lately? Teal and pink? Are you kidding me? I'd rather have it in Athens than at the "Here Come the 80's dome".

The only redeeming feature to Tampa is the beach, but you can't even swim there in December anyways.

The ACC has already posted the information about the ACCCG on their website.

I think Tampa is a HUGE mistake. It is way to far to travel, and Tampa residents care even less about the ACC than Jacksonville residents do. Many ACC schools do not travel well (I was at the game this year, and there could not have been more than 2000 BC fans in the entire stadium), so putting it so far away seems like a terrible idea.
I am convinced that the league office is putting money ahead of what is truly best for the conference.

I love Nashville, but it isn't even in the ACC universe.

Orlando would have been a better choice than Tampa. But at least Tampa doesn't have the Gator bowl drawback. Miami isn’t driving distance to anywhere, and banking on FSU getting back to the title game anytime soon seems to be a losing bet.

I think DC would have been a better bet than Tampa, but I don’t mind mixing football and cold weather. You could at least make a nice weekend vacation out of that trip.

Charlotte would have been the best choice, since it is driving distance for so many teams. I think the local media would also play up the game a whole lot more than Jax. I also have family in NC, so that is a bonus for me.
