B. He didn't beat UGA when it was right there for the taking, derped it up with prevent defense. Never put that game in the refs hands. Still, big turnaround after the previous coach so he's not terrible.

CBK would actually be 14-12. You can't really use all his interim games when comparing to only 2 seasons of everybody else. If you add those 8 games you really need to add 8 more to all the other coaches. Same with GOL he's 11-11 not 11-14. Add 8 more games to Gailey's record and it's 18-15.

He certainly took over not just a sinking ship but the USS Indianapolis, torpedoed, sinking fast, no one knew where it was and it was in shark infested waters.
He did a couple of simple, easy fixes right off the bat that worked wonders - like actually preparing for other teams in practice, as opposed to WTF Clown was doing.
There are still some ... curious, to put it kindly ... decisions during games when it comes to clock and game management, especially from someone who worked alongside two of the better ones at those, Saban and O'Leary. You would have hoped he would have soaked some of that up.
There are times when we come out flat for no good reason (re: Birmingham Bowl), but every Tech coach has had to deal with that. There are still times when our special teams look like they took the short bus to the game.
But at least we're winning and there is optimism. Of the former, there was very little and of the latter, there was even less at the end of the previous regime. Our margin for error, though, is still small.
So ... B. A solid B. His predecessor had an infinity of - after his F. or MF.

Two 7-6 seasons, strong incoming class: B-/C+

Rating against past GT coaches' first two years is meaningless. Every circumstance was different, it's a 12 game season now and there is no predictive power in the comparison. Plus, we aren't competing against our past or our typically low expectations, we are competing against tomorrow's opponents and getting into the CFP.

9 or 10 wins this year would bump it to A-/B+.
7 or 8 wins this would keep it where it is, maybe move it to B/B- depending on who we beat.

year/year i think team performance has improved along with staff and recruiting.
not where we want to bee yet but improving.
B

Up by 14 with less than 5 minutes left in the game... you gotta win those. That's not just 1 bad call on the refs.

I mean, it was more than just 1 bad call. PI, ludicrous hold no call, missed targeting, a couple of bad spots...the refs had their thumbs on the scale for at least the entire second half. Yeah, Tech still could and should have pulled it out, but most of that game was played 11 v 18.

I can’t believe that many people would give him an A. We fired Gailey after a string of similar 7-5 seasons, after all. I am definitely happy with CBK and think we made the right move, but I don’t see how you can justify more than a B, and that’s even taking into account improved recruiting that should help us win more in the future.

Until Brent Key has one of the most talented team in GT history and doesn’t win the ACC or beat UGA he is nothing like Chan Gailey. That may be the case in a couple years. But he’s not there now.

For me, I gave him a low A due to the dumpster fire he inherited and how quickly he returned some semblance of respect to the program. With that said, I do expect continued improvement to keep the A grade. I'm excited about GA Tech football again and Brent Key is who I credit for that.

C, we’re still losing a lot of close games and have been fortunate in some close ones. He needs to study clock management or hire someone to do it for him.
Some people still think Syracuse went 4-8 last year.
