Great job defense and Birr

Meh, defense still sucked, looked like Wake OL gave up at the end. Birr was awesome though!
Wake OL gave up at the end. Okay. So the defense only earned 7 of their 8 sacks, gifted the 8th one. And we only earned 4 of the 5 turnovers, wake gifted us the final INT. Well if we only had 7 earned sacks and 4 forced turnovers, well öööö. We do suck.

Thacker had a bruise on his left cheek so whoever punched him this week before this improved defensive performance, thank you.

Bailed us out of more 2H öööö play calling

Anybody here still wishing we had hired Charles Kelly?

In re-watching the game...I think Thacker called the right defenses for the most part. He adjusted to the mesh offense too. The DL had a great night last night. Tatum is good but the tandem of Oliver and Efford is really good. You've got size and a quickness to the ball. The 2ndary was there to make plays but didn't. With either PIs or borderline PIs that shouldn't have been called half the time. K Johnson was much maligned last night but he made them pay at the very end for picking on him. Good win. Conference win.

The last PI that gave them their last TD was a total joke. Both players were playing the ball. No foul. The one before that the two were hand-fighting a bit and Wake player seemed to stumble (not due to the hand-fighting, IMPO) and the Tech defender (Johnson?) ran into him and got the call, unless they felt the hand-fighting led to the stumble which I don't think it did. Anyway, after the stumble the ball was uncatchable. IMPO, that would have been a good no-call.

Contrasting to that, on their TD pass their TE *clearly* pushed off our DL to get the separation he needed to catch the ball. I mean, it was flagrant to the point that the pro-Wake announcers made note of it. He was covered pretty well and likely the pass broken up if not for the push off. If you're going to call the hand play as INT, then call it evenly.

It was strange. We line up to kick the last FG....False start -5 yards....and I thought "meh, no BFD. He'll drill it."

And he did. Not since Butker have I had "gimme" PK confidence.

On the play when the Tech player ran into the Wake receiver, the receiver turned, saw the ball was overthrown and just stopped his route so he would get run over. The football equivalent of stepping in the lane to draw a charging foul.

I'd need to rewatch, but from the replays as he turned, he stumbled somewhat, and the Tech defender ran into him. I don't like your analogy as it switches offense/defense roles, plus, he was in no way set in his position when the contact occurred. I agree the ball was overthrown, too, and IMPO, should have been a no-call. To me, the only possible penalty call there was the hand play caused the WR to stumble, which did not seem to be the case. I think that's why the officials closest to the play didn't toss the flag.

I didn't say the penalty was deserved, just that it was a heady move by the Wake defender that got the flag thrown. I think he stumbled because he was putting the brakes on to let the Tech defender run into him. It made it look like it was a back shoulder throw coming in when it was an uncatchable ball.

That one was a bad call but it was an understandable call in real time. The final PI that led to their TD was criminal.
