We have 3 commitments thus far this year in Chris Jackson, Embry Peeples, and Nick McRae.
At this time last year we had 3 in Joseph Gilbert, Jerrard Tarrant, and Brad Jefferson.
Two years ago this time we had 2 in Ben Anderson and Robert Hall. In reality we also had Austin Barrick by this time but no one found out for a couple of months.

The difference seems to be when comparing ourselves to the state pen to our east. They ad 5 at this time two years ago and 4 last year at this time. However, they have 11 so far this year...2-3 times their normal production. To make it a bit more frustrating they are getting some good character kids by using our sales pitch from last year...academics & family first, Christian coaches, downplay football importance, etc.

Also of frustration....of their 11 commitments, 5 had offers from us (Bacarri Rambo, Makiri Pugh, Christian Robinson, Tavarres King, and DeAngelo Tyson) and 2 would have if our offers were out as early as they committed (A.J. Green, Cornelius Washington). Of course, on some of the big names in the state of Georgia this year there are the typical grade issues or we would have them on board...and there are a few big names we are not offering because we disagree with the popular assessment of them. These situations will always be there.

So...we are probably doing about as good as last year when comparing to ourselves...but may have to make a few adjustments for next year. We did take a different approach this year with the first junior day being much larger (40+) as opposed to the smaller "elite" junior day we did last year which seemed to really hook our big names with this "family feel". Who knows...just throwing it out there.

Last year was an incredible class...every year will not be that way. However, I still think this year will be solid or slightly better than solid...maybe even be our second best class over the past 6 years...we will see.

There are a lot of names up there we would like to go ahead and get secured...but we are in for some real battles! Steven Sylvester, Keith Wells, Omoregie Uzzie, Dontavious Jackson, Brice Butler, Kenneth Page, Michael Via, William Green, JB Fitzgerald, TJ Pridemore, Ralph Bolden, etc.....among many other big name out-of-state longer shots we are on the list of I will not even rattle off that would begin with Covaugh Deboskie...and some local kids we should be able to have join the family like Matt Roark, Cooper Tayler, etc. We also look ok with some out-of-state kids that have not hit the radar as hard such as Brandon Leslie, Malcolm Munroe, David Rowe, BJ Machen, Ryan Turnley, Jake Jackson, Rodriquez Wilkes, Jon Lockhart, etc.

Lets hope for some good news this summer!

Yeah, we probably won too many of the "head to head" battles" last year for that kind of success to continue - but it would be nice if the scales wouldn't completely tip back their way (like it appears to be doing).

Thanks for the update Hiveredtech! Better update than what I pay for over at the rivals GT site!

I just got back from Buffalo last night playing in Jim Kellys golf tourney and met a kid who supposedly is the next Herschel Walker, according to some news sources around the area. I met the kid but that was it.

He told his friend to let me know GT is in his top three with UCLA and UF being the other two. His brother plays for Pitt but doesn't want to go there. All the big boys are looking at him and in passing he told me that he has received info from Giff Smith.

He is from I believe Churchville Chili right outside of Rochester. Mustang would you do some research?

While I try to obey the recruiting rules as he was standing close to me I let his friend know that GT would be the best school for him. Grades are not an issue.

Thanks for spreading the "good" word, fridgemover - a quick search returned Averin Collier who has decent measurables, but not really Hershell size. Looks like he has some high major interest but not the schools that you mentioned, although it has been several months since the last update.

Edit: Averin must be the guy because his brother, Kevin Collier plays for Pitt.

The only thing sillier than getting worked up over recruiting is getting worked up over recruiting in June.

Yeah pretty silly Knox.

Just talked to Giff. Seems they appreciate fans who care.

Couldn't agree more John. Knox will be the first to complain when we lose because we don't have the talent to compete.

You must be referring to Averin Collier. He is definitely a talent. He is a strong guy with a nice combination of power and elusiveness. He runs very well between the tackles and can lower the boom to pick up extra yards. He always hits the hole wide open and shows good burst of speed. He has the ability to make defenders miss, has good run instincts and vision and can put a couple of moves together once he hits the second level. However, he lacks some in terms of top-end speed. He is not as effective on the outside as he is between the tackles. He may find getting to the edge much more difficult in college. However, one can still expect him to move the chains, break some long runs and tackles and carry a full load but may not be much of a home-run threat.

If ugag is "using our sales pitch from last year" does that mean they don't wait around for something to happen?

Kinda like getting donnan out after 3 straight losses?

We kept all but what 4 or 5 guys from our recruiting class? That sounds like a pretty good rate to me - meaning the most of the guys we got commits from in June signed in January. Pretty silly indeed. How's that optimism anonymous class coming?

Talk about misreading a post. Replace the phrase "worked up" with "worried" and you'll find my intended meaning.

It's somewhat refreshing to know that there are coaches out there who don't require five years to make a change isn't it?

Post retracted then - not literally because I don't delete posts. I am now in agreement with you. It is WAY too early to get worried that this year's recruiting class will be poor. In reality, it may be two to three years before we know the true rating of this year's class.

I still don't quite understand the intention (unless you're simply adding to hiveredtech's commentary that there isn't anything to "worry" about) - I don't think anyone in this thread is "worked up" or "worried". Only discussing recruiting because there is nothing else sports related to discuss.

To me hiveredtech's post reads like it was written as a response to worries about this class. That is why I responded the way I did.

:laugher:

Forget the fact they've won the SEC and been to their Championship game just about every year since Richt has been there...and that Richt has NEVER lost to Gailey...and the fact their recruiting rankings are always better than our illustrious coach's.. yea, you nailed it.. they JUST this year figured out our coaching staff's strategy on how to recruit! Geez..I knew some of our fans were delusional, but now this takes the yellow cake.

According to Scout, we did better than your beloved Bulldawgs in 2007 recruiting.:ugh:

I think it's time for you to go back to whacking off to Markey Boy now. Have a nice evening.

Wow, what a shock, "Geetee" stroking Mark Richt and bragging on his beloved Mutts. Why do you even bother to pretend to be a Tech fan?

"According to Scout, we did better than your beloved Bulldawgs in 2007 recruiting."

And according to Rivals, you didn't.
