GT Getting Some Recognition

On the way home from the airport, a whole segment talking about GT football and golf on PGA Tour Radio, around 12:30pm ET. GT is the biggest topic of conversation in sports right now.
The interesting and nice thing to me has been the combination of nationwide positive coverage, which I am happy to enjoy fully, and GT fans generally keeping things in perspective and not going overboard with bravado, at least as far as I've seen, not at large proclaiming extra loudly that we are a lock for the national championship (even though we are). Part of this is in jest of course, but you get my point.

Even international recognition. On Sunday there was an Irishman on our train from Dublin to Howth dressed in full GT regalia. I talked to him briefly. He had little Green Bay and NFL pins on his jacket, obviously a big American football fan.

I think most GT fans are aware of how hard the schedule is this year. Hopefully, anyway.

Most long time fans know better. In '07, I remember thinking we had arrived after we pummeled Notre Dame in the season opener. I started bragging to all my friends that we were the class of the ACC. Then a week later, we got Matt Ryan'ed by BC.

Never again.

You don’t have to go that far back. The 2020 season began with a victory over Florida State.

Well DeBoer ain’t no Ray Perkins, nor Bill Curry either. His record is insane. My guess is still that he’ll be very successful.
Except now he's out of the PAC & MWC, so I guess we'll see if the competition is really all that more fierce as it's hyped up to be.

The amount of positive press we've gotten in just a few days is incredible. I can't keep up with it all. Seems like our biggest win for public opinion of GT since 2014!
FSU was crazy to agree to the game. They had a whole lot more to lose.

I've probably had well over 100+ random strangers honk or flag me down to talk about the FSU game and team/program.

Hell, today I ran into Louisville DB Desmond Tell's dad at QT who almost ran me over just to holler "Yo Georgia Tech???!!?!???! We comin' for you!" lol. We talked for about 15 mins about Nate, Desmond, Will (Anderson), who were all Dutchtown teammates. FYI.....just say that Nate wasn't 'thrilled when Geoffffff rolled up in Chapel Hill.

* to add.....he had to mention the forced fumble in last year's opener. Can't blame him, proud dad moment for sure

The last time that happened to me was in 2007 after GT crushed ND in South Bend in the season opener. I happened to be in Tuscaloosa for Saban's first game with my Bama grad ex-wife. I had a Tech hat on, and the Bama fans were going nuts and high-fiving me all over town. On a golf course in Birmingham the next day an older Bama fan sang "Ramblin Wreck" from the fairway when I was on the green.

My biggest worry is FSU is bad.
That's fine, we are using the SEC model; it doesn't matter how bad they really are; they were highly ranked when we beat them, so we get the springboard effect.
