Now that all NFL draft declaratio have been made, next years preseason rankings should be coming into shape. I'd say we end up anywhere from 10-13. Any ideas?

I know we hurt ourselves with that Peach Bowl loss but I dont realistically see us outside of the top 15 preseason.

I think we'd at least be top 20. We ended the season ranked 22 and we are returning more than the average team would so 16-19 isn't that out of reach. I think top 15 would be pushing it though.

I agree with this. We laid an egg against LSU but we were incredibly young and inconsistent, and showed flashes of greatness all season. I would have said top 10 if we had stayed competitive with LSU, but now I'd guess 13-15.

I would say 17ish. Think what the national perspective will be about GT. Flashes of brilliance with some huge numbers against good teams but we also laid a few eggs in some games. They will also look at just the number of returning starters, not necessarily the fact that almost the entire D-line is gone.

However much they value that after the numbers our opponents put up in the second half of the season.

I think we'll be ranked top 15 in the preseason, but not higher than 10. We had a really young team this year and have a ton of returning starters coming back compared to other teams. I'll be surprised if we're not ranked between 10 and 15 to start out.

Does it really matter?
(rhetorical question)

Yes, here's why?

Positives:
1. Better shot at MNC. Right now, Tech would have to go undefeated and still may not get the nod.

2. More attractive to recruits.

3. Strokes our(fans) egos. Lots of mentions on ESPN, "dunadunt"

Negatives:
1. Creates false confidence in players (big heads)

2. Reduces motivation in offseason (the "let's prove 'em wrong" tude is gone)

3. Higher expectations of fanbase leads to greater disappointment when they fall short.

4. Tech always lays an egg when ranked high and usually exceeds expectations when ranked low.

5. More higher profile schools will court our coach in the offseason.

Hopefully we aren't talking MNC already? What are we ugag?

Doubt preseason rankings impress lots of kids.

Not too worried with PJ around.

3. Higher expectations of fanbase leads to greater disappointment when they fall short.

If we expect undefeated seasons and national championships based on where we are as a team right now, we really have turned into ugag.

4. Tech always lays an egg when ranked high and usually exceeds expectations when ranked low.

We do need to get over this paranoia. The problem normally is more one of expectations that are unreasonable. Just like this discussion. We are not a top 10 program yet. Can we win enough to sneak in? Sure. But we're still in the beginning stages of PJ building this.

5. More higher profile schools will court our coach in the offseason.

See recruits. I really don't think too many schools worry about preseason rankings when looking for a coach.
