I would have loved for PJ to come here. having said that now, I'm not so sure about him anymore if he REALLY wants to coach at SMU over GT.

What worries me is PJ's interviewing today, and Hatcher has a press conference today.


Here's my hope. I hope PJ's "interview" today is 15 minutes long, and it's at noon or before, and it's Dan Radikovich Hardball. "Sorry PJ, we're standing firm on our 1.2 million (or whatever) offer, and we need a decision from you now." We get a yes or no, and if it's no, we call Hatcher on the phone and say "You got the job for 900k/yr, as long as you keep Giff Smith, we'll iron out the details tomorrow." And we make that call before Hatcher's 3pm press conference.
 
PJ would be worth the money if he wins 10 or 11 games a year. BDS would be filled every home game, which is not happening now, and boosters would open the purse strings for a winner.

He's done it everywhere he's been, and he's winning at Navy with a bunch of slow, small, smart guys. If he had the speed at Navy that he had at GSU, he'd never lose a game. He can get that speed at GT.
 
Consider too guys that the BCS landscape for coaches' salaries has changed for 2007. The deisre to win is so great at these schools, that they'll pay huge dollars for their guy. This stuff is like real estate. Once you've got a comparable, you've got to be ready to deal with those demands.

Not saying that's right or wrong, but that's the way it is. Look at what Clemson just did for Bowden. They are a similar sized school, but in a much, much smaller media market.
 
This attitude of Georgia-Tech-is-a-second-rate-program-we-can't-even-compete-with-the-likes-of-SMU-and-Navy is f*cking pathetic. Attitudes like this are what is holding us back and forcing us to settle for mediocre coaches like Chan. If we get someone like Muschamp or Hatcher in here, our recruiting is going to be outstanding, and so will our teams.
 
Can we rehire Gailey? Starting to look like we had a good deal with him... he won the coastal last year, will have won 8 games this year, recruiting was back on track starting last year and was/is looking good again for this year... played Ugag very close every year lately but just didn't get the breaks they did to win the game. Now, we can't afford certain coaches and may have to hire someone from smaller division school with limited experience and some still want to hire an asst with no HC experience simply bc he yells Boom MF to players... whew.. enough to make someone crazy..

PJ could always going against Jack Reale's wishes and take the GT job.

or....some "fat man" can cough up the difference like at SMU.

or...we can turn to Hatcher, Tenuta, etc.

I don't know about anyone else, but that's not my attitude. My attitude is Georgia-Tech-is-in-such-a-good-position-we-don't-have-to-pay-out-the
-nose-for-PJ-because-we-have-options-just-as-good-for-a-lot-cheaper.
 
People have lost their minds. Every candidate that we have is an improvement on what we had before and that's including Tenuta.

I love the way people can post an opinion on here and all of a sudden it just becomes fact because enough people repeat it.

If PJ were eliminated, why is he on campus today interviewing? I am not saying he's going to be our next HC, but clearly he has not been eliminated if we are going to spend a whole day with him.

And if PJ does not work out, we have plenty of good alternatives: Hatcher or Tenuta. We could even go back to guys that had interest, but we chose not to interview like Cutcliffe, Mason, Fridge, etc.....

All the rumors you hear are on here could turn out to be completely false or gross exagerations of the truth so keep that in mind before you start throwing GT, D-Rad, Clough, Taz, etc..... under the bus.

Obviously when I envision "throwing someone under the bus" by bus I mean a 260 lbs fullback wearing Steeler black and gold. Why would you throw them under a bus with a driver? That could be dangerous. There could be children on board or nuns. Do want the blood of 36 nuns on your hands when you approach the Pearly Gates. I don't think so. I'll take Jerome Bettis.

Listen, we basically had no inflation in coaching salary for 6 years while the rest of the college football world exploded upwards. Anyone who though we were going to hire an established coach at $1.2 was fooling them selves anyway. The going rate for a HC is closer to $2M per than $1 in today's market. So either we pay what it takes for PJ, or we hire someone without D-1A HC experience. That shouldn't be a revalation to anyone, especially DRad. This is negotiation guys, it's what happens when you get involved with a candidate who has options. No big deal.
 
Right now about 14 of 119 D-IA or 66 BCS conference coaches make $2M+. I would not say that is the going rate. Spurrier, Rodriguez, Schiano, Erickson, Pinkel all make less than that.
