Guys...looks like we do not have the $$$.....

Right now about 14 of 119 D-IA or 66 BCS conference coaches make $2M+. I would not say that is the going rate. Spurrier, Rodriguez, Schiano, Erickson, Pinkel all make less than that.

That latest list you are looking at is probably the same one I have and does not reflect a lot of changes. I think there are about 20 coaches now above $2.0 million.

Chan was about 45th at $1.048 million.

True, but $2.0M is not the going rate for just any guy with previous coaching experience.

...and yet, most of the hires (and renegotiations) done at reasonably high profile universities this year are in that $2M range, JT.

Like I said, I'd take PJ at 1.5, maybe 1.7. Not 2. Not with his buyout. Tech has better options than paying 2+buyout for PJ, and if PJ's worth 2+buyout to someone else, then clearly he should go there.

Doesn't it stand to reason that if we want a top 20, or dare say top 10, program that we need to pay a top 20 or 10 salary?

It blows me away when the same people who wanted Gailey fired, who "can't settle for mediocrity," expect to get an experienced top flight D1A head coach for a "mediocre" salary. Then when such a coach is out of our league, is willing to settle for the unproven wild cards (see Bill Lewis)

You can't have it both ways, if you want to "play" with the big boys, you gotta "pay" like the big boys.

Pony up or shut up.

New hires:

Houston Nutt - $1.7M
Mike Sherman - $1.8M
Art Briles - $1.8M

Show me the new hire that is getting paid $2.0M.

All the guys getting paid more than $2.0M are guys that got raises for doing a job in their current position.

1.7, 1.8, 1.8, and several 2.0 or mores that were given raises to keep them from leaving, adds up to a host of data points within "the range of" 2.0.

:P

I said closer to $2M than $1M is the going rate, not that $2M is the right price. That's for someone leaving a D-1A job for another and I think it's pretty much in line. Not for someone getting their first HC job obviously.

oh, those defenses.. the defense that Ugag made to look like they were playing on roller skates the past few years? got it.

Geetee STFU. I guess Brandon Cox throwing 4 pics had nothing to do with that.
