HC Brent Key interview w/ Andy Demetra.

HCBK isn't polished. WYSIWYG. He's the anti-Collins. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he bleeds White and Gold (and sometimes blue and black) for all the world to see. He doesn't have to sell all the marketing because it's obvious. It's who he is. He played there. He understands the challenges of the Georgia Tech students athlete. I think all of this is why the kids identify with him and like him. He's one of them, but he's the wise older warrior that leads them. When they lose, he loses. When they win, he wins.

Georgia Tech is a hard place. It's especially hard for a softer generation. As with most difficult things in life, if you survive them, you come out stronger and smarter. Georgia Tech will change you and that was what I heard HCBK testifying to. HCBK knows how to navigate through the crucible and come out a better man. He knows the way. He knows "The Process". That's leadership.

I don't know if he will produce the wins we want. College football ain't what it use to be. But I think he will be a coach we can believe in and I think the kids will play hard, be well coached and be competitive and if they stick around they will graduate and come out better men. That is Georgia Tech's mission and all I can hope for in a head football coach at Georgia Tech.

Hope so, he didn't win against a horrible UVA team or a really poor Miami team. I hope we just didn't trade in a 3 win coach (worse in program history) for a 5 win season Bill Lewis level coach just because of the contract/buyout that the last AD signed.
People keep bringing up the Miami and UVA games as if we were outcoached and collapsed or something. We lost our starting QB in each of those games and all we had to send in was Gibson off the bench. I'd say take a look at the games where we didn't have any of our main players have to leave the game: Pitt, Duke, VT, FSU, and u[sic]ga. 3 of those were wins where we controlled the ball, played solid D, and were able to get enough success on offense to rest the D. FSU and u[sic]ga were both against teams with much more talent, and performed well against u[sic]ga for longer than most thought we would.
Yes, that conveniently excludes 2 of the losses, but even in those, we didn't have huge collapses or look like we hadn't practiced. We covered 20+ point spreads 3 times this season, 2 were wins on the field. I think after a whole offseason, we will see a lot of positive development overall going into 2023.

Andy still in his Play-by-Play voice? Or is that just how he talks throughout every day?

Would be strange to have him at the weekly poker game projecting such a voice
Pretty sure he talks like that at the McDonald's drive-thru.

And in the Church confessional.

[Demetra]
Well, Father, Its been 38 Days since my last confession and we've got a good one for you today
Let's kick things off with lying to the judge about the real reason I was speeding
And lets follow that up with shagging a couple StinGTalk moms under the west stands at halftime
And what confession would be complete without some good, ole-fashioned false-witnessing before the Cabrera v Collins matchup
But the BIG ONE, Father, was when I whizzed in Collins WaHo cup just before the press conference when that reporter asked Collins what he had to say to the fans and he gave that long, sideways smirk.
Thanks again Father - this is the only place where a Hail Mary doesn't get me 7 points.

"Where are those who condem you, Andy? Has no one condemned you?"
"No one, Lord"
"Then neither do I."

It was weird and awkward during the interview too. CBK seemed uncomfortable.

He seemed fine to me. Y’all are crazy.

Why you trying to read more into every situation than actually exists?
It comes from watching too many David Lynch movies. You just know there is something weird right below the surface.

I needed a good laugh and I got one.very clever.

As far as judging Key's results so far ask yourself this. If Key hadn't been hired, with whoever we got, would you be satisfied 8 games into next season if the new coach was 4-4? If the answer is yes then simply by holding Key to that same standard we see that he has already accomplished that and under worse conditions than coming in fresh and having a full offseason to prepare. I don't get the "Key underperformed" thinking at all.

Hey I love Twin Peaks.
Me too

Good interview. He says the right things and seems to care about the right things. I’ll be pulling for him and the team even though I wasn’t initially (or still all the way) happy with the hire. I’d love to say I was wrong in a few years.

I just realized I even left the UNC game out by mistake. So of the 6 games where we didn't lose our starting QB unexpectedly, 4 were wins, and the other 2 were at least not embarrassments.

I support Key fully. I will not be jumping off the bandwagon but if we perform the same next year then it will be worrying.

He did great this year given all the intangibles. UNC and UGA were good results with a lot of good coaching, given the circumstances.

But UVA and Miami were very bad teams that we lost to. And we won 2 of our games by the skin of our teeth.

Yes a .500 year next season will be fine but if they offense stinks again and we have to be top 5 in the nation in turnover margin to do it, then I will have concerns.

Everyone is assuming Key can get more out of the team but only time will tell.
