Annexation of Puerto Rico?

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Annexation of Puerto Rico

A glorious football play popularized in the movie "Little Giants." Its is pretty much a center sneak. The QB hikes the ball, and pretends to run the play while the center, who actually has the ball, runs toward the end zone. This play won the game for the Little Giants in their final game against the Cowboys. Will go down in fottball history and lore.

Ah yeah, that's probably what he meant. At least that is what I thought he meant when I read it.

Its not like we run the fumbleruski every single play or even the Annexation of New Mexico. This is not a trick-play system. It is a system designed to create one on one match-ups in different manner than most other systems. This works very well in college, because there are many many more one-on-one match-ups to exploit at this level of play.

Anybody acting like this is Tecmo bowl football where if you call the perfect defense there is no way the offense can run the play is an idiot.

Agree, but with one small but important caveat. The TO doesn't try to create 1-on-1 matchups, it creates 1-on-none matchups. The offense outnumbers the defense 8-6 on the playside EVERY time no matter what defense you draw up against it. If the blocking is there, and the correct read is made, someone is going to run free with the ball for a very long time. So, in order to stop it, the defense has to do something unsound, which we will then exploit with counters, passes, blocking variations, etc.

Nobody has figured out how to stop UF, WVA, or TxTech. These offenses and ours cannot be stopped by anyone but ourselves or the Madden All Time Team. They can do stuff to try to confuse us or slow us down for a play or two, but they can never truly stop us. It's beautiful.

That's the one I meant. It's not like I watch Little Giants every weekend.

Just every other. ;)

Ed in Chesterfield, Va., writes: Hey Heather how are you? I'm a VT grad but have a question about Georgia Tech. Do you think that it's been overlooked, by yourself and others who expect GT to contend next year, that ACC teams were new to facing Johnson's offense last year but will now atleast be aquainted with it and find weaknesses? I agree the Jackets have a lot of talent in the backfield but LSU showed what can happen when you have time to prepare. Thanks

Our offense will NEVER be a problem while P.J. is here...As a few have said on this thread, WE have stopped us this year and not the opposing defenses..

The question here at Gt in the Paul Johnson era will ALWAYS be DEFENSE...Will he bring a top 15 scoring defense to the table at some point, non of this adequete or we did this or that or this excuse (We used new technique and new system as excuses this year on defense) BUT, we have to be a top 15 scoring defense every year to be a legitimate MNC contender...PERIOD!!! If P.J. can do this at some point, we will have something REAL special around here...If Wommack doesn't get it done this year, then he should be out...We were horrible on defense the last half of the year...

Of course they can stop us. All they have to do is execute better than us. If all you are trying to say is that if we execute perfectly and don't make mistakes then no one can stop us...well, you can say that about virtually any offense. Good defensive reads and discipline are what can FORCE mistakes from us(and any other offense) and cause us to "stop ourselves."

No, I don't think GT can have a top 15 scoring defense consistently under P.J. We simply will not see a traditional offense at full speed anywhere but in games. Our scout team will not be able to replicate the speed at which our opponent's offenses will operate. I do think our defense can be good. I also think that the shortening of games which is a byproduct of a run-based offense can make our defensive numbers appear better than they actually are, but ultimately our defense will have a tough time dominating offenses. I still think our defense can be very good. With good coaching we can out-prepare and out-scheme opponents and the fact that most D-1 schools run a similar offense will help, but a Jon Tenuta dominating type performance, where we shut out quality teams, may be a thing of the past.

I disagree.....
It is a matter of getting a kick butt Defensive coordinator and recruitng good defensive players...A Dc coordinator that stands on that sideline like Foster @ VT Van Gorder , Muschamp, Mickey Andrews, That type fiery guy that doesn't tolerate poor tackling or lack of intensisty with his players that kicks butt in practice....It is a mindset and you look at the teams that are championship calibre they have these type guys... Ive heard your argument before and don't buy that excuse...It boils down to a committment to that type defense and i suspect after looking at P.J.'s face at that Chikfila bowl (Sitting right behind him) I saw the disgust at that pitiful poor defensive performance where LSU lined up and literally kicked and pushed our defense around like a bunch of rag dolls...I suspect PJ. will have had enough after this year, if it continues, because it will cost us from winning a championship, mark it down...

I will say this a bit to Wommack's (sort of) defense. Last season we had a defensive line that should of been pretty damn good, and at times it was. However, there were plenty of times where they just didn't seem to be performing to their capability. Granted that is something you'd expect a D coordinator to fix, but there is also the fact that he didn't recruit these guys or even train/coach them up. I do agree next season will be very telling.

Here we go again. Last year's defense was every bit as good as any defense Tenuta put on the field in his time at Tech. We played like crap in the chicken bowl, but over the course of the year our defense was as good as any we've had.

It's sort of like how even though I've read Heather's articles before, I'm still not prepared for how she literally lowers my IQ with each word.

How has seven years of reading StingTalk not prepared you for that?

Yeah, here we go again with you....
Giving up 31 to Fsu, 42 to Ugag and 38 to Lsu is playing championship defense....:wow:

What exactly was wrong with her this time?

Today? Dunno, haven't read the piece. Her drain on the universe began long ago and extends through all directions of time. Ever get a pain somewhere in your body for no apparent reason? That's Heather picking up a pen.

Wow, so she is lowing your IQ with every word even when you don't read it? That is some powerfully bad writing.

Paul Johnson's, Leach's and Meyer's offenses all thrive on using every ball-eligible player as a threat throughout the whole field. Pro offenses instead typically center around only two threats: QB passing to WR's or RB running up the middle.

I guess you could say Paul Johnson's offense exploits the field horizontally while pro offenses exploit the field vertically. The former requires very good and tough running backs with specific lateraling skills. The latter requires QB's with good throwing skills and WR's with good speed, good route running skills and good catching skills.

Paul Johnson just happens to be a guru in this type of offense and will drill players to execute and exploit every possible deficiency in the defense. After all, no offense under the sun can promise an extra player against the defense. It all depends on how well the offense uses what the defense gives them.

It also helps that Tech does not have to go toe-to-toe for the best QB's and WR's for pro-style offense. We have our pick of players with skills specific to this offense.

You guys really are full of it. Her articles are no more or less insightful than pretty much any writer who covers college football.
