Notice anything different between Washington and Georgia Tech? One is embarrassed and pissed. This should have been the reaction after The Citadel loss, which should never have happened. (The Citadel was a losing FCS team with a 3rd string QB, Montana at least is a good team). Instead, we go radio silent.

Lesson: Recruiting is simply a first step in building a winning program. Development and coaching are just as vital to winning.

Washington Huskies coach Jimmy Lake looking to 'make amends' with fanbase after humbling loss (espn.com)

SEATTLE -- Washington coach Jimmy Lake said his team is looking to "make amends" to their fanbase after arguably the most embarrassing loss in the history of the Huskies football program.

"We should not have played the way we played on Saturday night and that's why I feel so bad for our fans, for our supporters," Lake said on Monday. "They should be disappointed. They should be pissed, just like we are. All we can do now is move forward here and make amends. And that's what we're trying to do."

Lake's words won't take away the sting of Saturday's 13-7 home loss to Montana when the Huskies -- ranked No. 20 -- became the fifth ranked FBS team to lose to a FCS team since 2007.

It was a stunning, unexpected stumble by the Huskies. A team expected to compete for a Pac-12 title and considered a darkhorse for a College Football Playoff run was bullied on its home field by a lower division opponent and held to its lowest point total at home in 11 years.

The trouble for Washington is it could get worse. The warmup against Montana was supposed to be the easy appetizer to this week's showdown at Michigan. And if Lake can't regroup in a hurry, Washington could be looking at its first 0-2 start since the infamous 2008 season when it went 0-12.

"We've got to be better prepared, we've got to have a better plan and we did not execute a good plan," Lake said. "It all starts with coaching first, and it starts with me."

Washington's history is speckled with bad losses. There was the 10-7 loss in 1973 to Hawaii, reportedly as a 50-point favorite, a 1985 loss at home to Oregon State as a 38-point favorite and a loss to Stanford as a 19-point favorite in 2006 that cost the Huskies a bowl game.

But Saturday's loss may still have been the most shocking. These Huskies, with NFL talent across the roster, were outcoached, outmaneuvered and outplayed.

"We have extraordinary leadership on our team," Lake said. "This does not sit well with them. This does not sit well with our team."

What might be most disheartening was Washington's inability to use its superior talent to impose itself on Montana. Washington was regarded as having one of the top offensive lines in the country, yet failed to bully Montana's defensive front. Huskies quarterback Dylan Morris was sacked once in four games last season; he was sacked three times by the Grizzlies. Take away the sack numbers, Washington rushed for 90 yards on 24 carries, a mere 3.8 yards per carry.

Morris also threw three interceptions, the last coming with 31 seconds left. It was one of the few downfield shots taken by Morris, in part due to a limited group of receivers.

Lesson: Stop the gimmicks like weight lifting in the end zone before games and coddling and excusing. If your QB isn't getting it done, replace him. Keep the culture gab inside the locker room and quit advertising it. Obviously, Northern Illinois decided to show it on the field, not on Twitter.

Just watched Collins’ press conference. It’s like bizarro world where everything was great and going according to plan. Full confidence in the kicker, Sims was playing great, OL was doing great, etc.

When asked what he’d say to fans not pleased with what they saw, he made the guy repeat the question and then looked around incredulous that it was even asked.

Lots of coach-speak and reiterating the party line, with little acknowledgement that anything went poorly other than the final outcome.

Sad but not unexpected. Collins is total loser.

Sorry, not enough random bolding, underlining, and italicizing.

Also described Bobby Dodd as "relatively packed" and said that Sims was playing really good and seemed confused anyone would suggest otherwise. And he looked like he wanted to murder Ken at the end when he asked what he would say to fans who didn't like what they saw.

I've been one of the biggest CGC supporters and this one is pushing it a bit even for me. I suggest some of ya'll skip this presser or risk a rage stroke.

Edit: Wait, I just repeated everything you said. I think I just read the first and last sentence. lol

He also referred back to his days as the DC at MSU when they were ranked #1. Collins loves to do that with Temple too as if it’s going to convince us he’s a good coach at GT.

When everyone (players and fans) are fed a constant stream of BS then everyone becomes delusional.

I have never cared about the pressers because I assumed he was giving the players something a whole lot different behind closed doors than he gives us. But if I was wrong in that assumption, yikes.

I saw a bunch of guys unenthusiastic and bored Saturday night… if they don’t come to play that’s 100% on the coaching staff and we all saw CPJ blame himself for those kind of lackadaisical performances.
You mean you weren't jacked up seeing the Juice Crew bouncing? HaHa

By the way, where is the bunker Stansbury is hunkered down in? I figured he would be out giving away tickets to boy scouts to put seats in the stands. That won't work...maybe card board cutouts and blame it on Covid?

No toughness, no accountability, love me blindly, etc. it’s all snake oil.

NIU would beat the brakes off Montana

Repent your false ways. You too can see the light. Repent and join us. Friends Against Geoff. Become a F-A-G.

Edit - did this sissy-ass board lose its balls in the last year? Why is that word changed? C'mon man...

Not yet. I will exit right before they pass out the Kool aid!

Collins has managed to drag through the mud a Hall of Fame head coach that took this joint to heights we haven't seen in decades. He's got people still convinced that Hall of Fame coach is to blame for everything. Sad.

If the best a “Hall of Fame” coach could do at Tech is post a losing record vs FBS opponents after his predecessors players cycled out then we should probably drop down to FCS.

Pretty sure the fans did much worse to CPJ during his last few seasons here.
