Here Is How A Coach Reacted After an Embarrassing Loss

At this juncture, Geoff Collins would have to pull off a 50s like Dodd run just to get back to your mouth breathing, knuckle dragging definition of mediocre.

Not that he could do it but all he’d have to do is average winning 7/11 FBS games for 6 years.

Not exactly a Herculean feat given Gomer Gailey was able to accomplish it.

From 11-18 we won 48 FBS games and lost 46. HALL OF FAME numbers for sure.

Now do conference championships, appearances, and CFP bowls.

You, ööööing clown.

Let me know when Collins hits those "mediocre" numbers, too.

Johnson has the same number of ACC championships as “Hall of Famer” Jim Grobe.

The following “Hall of Fame“ coaches won the Coastal during Johnson’s final 6 years: David Cutcliffe, Larry Fedora, Justin Fuente, and Pat Narduzzi.

An elite coach should run roughshod over those jokers.

Do you think Geoff Collins would be running roughshod over all them? Any of them?

If Paul Johnson is mediocre, what's that make Collins?

Now include Top 10 Ws and Top 5 Ws.

How's that flush things out in your dumbass calculation?

What's the projection for when DJ Jazzy Geoff hits that milestone? Will we have to wait another 20 or 30+ years before that happens again after Paul Johnson did it multiple times? That was a long ass wait before he arrived.

Only a ööööing retard would call Paul Johnson's career at Georgia Tech mediocre.

Just accept the L you innumerate jock sniffer. Having a .500 winning percentage against teams with the same number of scholarships is mediocre. Almost by definition.

A total unmitigated disaster. I’m not sure why you tards can’t wrap your heads around multiple things being true at the same time.
Why are you calling me a tard? I liked Paul Johnson, I thought he was a good coach, but he ain't working here any more and there's no real reason to bring him up. But folks do.

People hated CPJ’s smugness when he was losing but loved it when he was winning. People hate CGC’s rainbows and butterflies because he’s losing. Press conferences mean nothing. Winning or losing is all that matters. Stupid to act otherwise.
This is it. CGC's pressers are grating because he is not producing wins. Attacking him is fair game though when we play like we did Saturday.

Seriously. I don't know why we can't look back with fondness at the good times, drink away the bad times, and just appreciate what CPJ did for the Institute. Why bring him up (good or bad) in every thread now?

While taking the program to heights not seen in decades is not mediocre. He came into a mediocre program. He reached rarely achieved heights at the school over a multi-year period. He left in a similar state, as he entered.

There are loads of Hall of Fame coaches with that path both recent and throughout college football history. It doesn't change anything about their careers or how they setup the program to continue after them. Jesus. Tech fans are ööööing miserable when they take great joy in ööööting on their own program's accomplishments. Why don't you tell me what Johnson's FBS record was during even years, since we're just cherry picking the last 4 years or whatever?

Collins' spiel about what GT should be works largely because of the accomplishments during Paul Johnson's tenure.

Conference championships?
CFP bowls?
Beating Top 10 teams at night in BDS?

Remember all that öööö he promised? You think that's easier sell to recruits and gets the fans more fired up over cause they can actually remember it that last time? Make that sell at GT vs some school without that recent pedigree. Cause prior to that we either had to go back to 1990 or for öööö's sake - the 50s and 60s. That would sound even more dumb if he was promising that. O'Leary couldn't even deliver that.

And ya, I do admire Paul Johnson. I can accept with great joy his accomplishments and realize he trailed off in effectiveness. He still left the school in a better place for it.

For a pretty good long time, CGC's built-in excuse was the 'most significant rebuild in CFB history' or some such nonsense. When CGC is excusing his losing by blaming the previous regime, fans have little choice but to grapple with it. Hopefully that excuse is beginning to run its course, and we can all stop debating the final few years of CPJ's tenure.

Looking at a coaches record after the previous coaches cycle out is not cherry picking. But we can do the whole time if we want. CPJ was a whopping 69-61 against FBS opponents. This is in the öööötiest division in P5 football.

What exactly did O’Leary not deliver? You didn’t get to go to Orange Bowls for being runner up then or O’Leary would’ve gone to three. He never had the good fortune of making a conference championship with a .500 team because two programs were on probation. He didn’t get to play an FCS opponent every year (two in two separate years). B*** L**** didn’t leave him an absolutely loaded roster.

Johnson left the program in a much, much worse state than he found it. The only position he left in a better place was punter. Four good years out of 11 does not make that ok.

PJ got support from D-Rad. He got it from T-Stan, too (who called PJ a "mad scientist" to us one night after a few beverages).
But he got zilch from M-Bob. PJ was pushing for more recruiting budget, which he didn't get from M-Bob but T-Stan has given to CGC.
And our players' lounge was a joke. Stuffing come out of the cushions. Try bringing in 4 star and 5 star kids to see that. That's what PJ had to deal with under M-Bob (I rewatched PJ's retirement announcement a few weeks ago - I was bored, so, yeah - and it was telling how he thanked D-Rad and T Stan. But didn't say öööö about the Abominable Snowman).
Had PJ been able to get even a modicum of backing from M-Bob to bring in a top flight DC or boost the recruiting efforts, maybe he doesn't get so burned out on the deal. Maybe he gets the extra player or two who take us over the top.
Maybe.

PJ left Collins a brand new locker room and players lounge. He left him 8 4 star players (by Rivals rankings) either on the roster or in the 2019 recruiting class — BJS, Tre, Kaleb Oliver, Gentry Bonds, Jaylon King, Jordan Domenick, James Graham and Yates — and that doesn't include Jordan Mason (who's good), Dontae Smith (who's good) or Juanyeh, Charlie or Tariq or several others.
Sean Bedford said it best on the pregame radio show a couple of years ago. You're rebuilding a house. But the bones of the structure are in really good shape.
