To me, these games are pretty much identical. Our Offense will be going up against stout defenses, particularly the defensive lines. On the flip side, our strong defense and its line will go up against good opposing lines, but overall impotent offenses. Although Glennon has much more starting experience, I'm no more threatened by him than the BC QB. I don't see either offense manufacturing more than one touchdown drive against our defense. I think we are good here.
The spotlight will, of course, be on how our offense performs. To me, Nesbitt is the X-Factor, and the reason why I believe we can win both games. We are all expecting some breakdowns from our O-line, and Nesbitt's improvisational skills will be important. I know a lot of people are worried about his throwing abilities, but after the first drive, I thought he settled down pretty well and most some good throws. I really like his arm strength. But the thing I love most about him is that you feel like he can make a positive play when there isn't one apparently available. Dwyer is a nice luxury to have, too.
Of course, we have to worry about fumbling the ball. The exchanges and handling were not crisp in the first game, and I'm hoping that it was just first-game nerves. We will fumble the ball a few times though, and I'm already counting on the offense to compensate for spotting BC, hopefully at most, 10 free points off of turnovers.
Special teams is also of concern, but I don't think this is actually going to be a huge problem. In field goal situations, I think PJ will go for it or punt it unless its a layup field goal. He's not going to put too much pressure on the kickers with long field goals. And I like our chances to convert on 4th downs. Our special teams won't cost us a game... for now anyway.
Overall, I'm excited about our chances. I think we can all agree that regardless of what the outcomes are, we will play iin 2 very, very competitive games.
