High School Offense

Paul Johnson scored more points against uga in his last 2 years than Collins has scored so far.
28 vs 7.

He almost has the same number of points against clemson in his last 2 years as Collins has in 4.
31 (10 + 21) vs 39 ( 14 + 7 + 8 + 10)

CPJ was the master of garbage time points against Clemson and UGA when the game had long been decided to make the box score appear more competitive. He also ran an offense that shortened games, which allowed us to not give us as many points. We were 100% not competitive with the likes of Clemson and UGA at the end of the 3-O era.

I agree with this but I have to say at this point I wouldn't mind some garbage time points to make our box scores appear more competitive -- losing our last three games by a combined score of 141-10 is really discouraging.

Throwing up a few garbage TDs in the fourth like CPJ did might not give us an actual chance at winning, but it would be nice to at least see our players in the end zone.

"We were 100% not competitive with the likes of Clemson and UGA at the end of the 3-O era."

Good thing that four years later, that has all changed and is in the past.

We were within 4 middle Q3. We forced a 3 and out down 7 late 3rd Qtr…. Except we didn’t because DJ pulled miracle backward pitch the the RB out of his ass when he was dead in the water sacked.

I’m not really trying to argue against your point however. My point was that CPJ wasn’t competitive at the end either with either Clemson or Georgia. What CPJ did though was beat middling teams (except Duke). To date Collins hasn’t proven he can do that.

Agree Veer. Paul Johnson was run off because we weren't "exciting" and didn't have an "entertaining" offense. That debacle last night was a complete joke. Pathetic offensive line. The tight end had no business being in a Div. 1 football game. But, we can say this for Collins, he's going to keep "Money Down" until the door hits him on the ass. And for good measure, maybe the worst uniforms Tech has ever put on.

That defense last night looked better than any D that PJ ever trotted out.

It's not just that. We had better defense / secondary as well.

The 3/o meant we competed for different prospects instead of trying to fish from the same pond as everyone else. I think the debate largely centers around whether that juice is worth the squeeze.

huh? Our Ds absolutely blew chunks under PJ and we complained about them on a weekly basis. 18 straight bubble screens vs MIA? GA Southern putting up damn near 40 against us in magical 2014? etc etc.

PJ hated defense and ignored it completely. Death marching (down 17 vs Duke in the 2nd half lol) was his idea of defense.

CPJ was a fantastic coach for just over a decade at Tech. His teams were on the decline after JT5 graduated. We finished his tenure by getting booty blasted by Minnesota. He hadn’t been able to move the ball on Clemson or Georgia DLs for a while there at the end.
We beat UGA in 2016. We were 1 win away from the ACCCG in 2018.

The 2017 UGA team was one of their best teams ever. Yes we lost to them.

from 2015-2019 Clemson went to the National Chnapionship Game four times. We were unable to beat national title contenders. Just like every other team on their schedule. Oh the horror.

1) You say the TO shortened games like it's a bad thing.

2)Almost nobody was competitive against Clemson or UGA in those years (and largely still aren't). This is one of the dumbest ööööing takes that gets posted and you've got it on repeat. Clemson beat Bama as bad as they beat us in 2018, and beat almost everyone else even worse. In 2017 we lost by 14 points, which was equal or better than Miami, Louisville, BC, VT, Wake, FSU, and SC.

Exactly. PJ made GT football more fun and explosive than it had been in a long time. I miss those days.

Newsflash - GT is not a top 10/15 football program. Can we be a competitive, top-25 team? Yup, but only under special circumstances. One proven way to accomplish that is by running a unique scheme - e.g. the flexbone. Another way is by having an outstanding recruiter ... but that's proving to be increasingly difficult at GT.

It's time to bring in another PJ-like coach with a unique offensive scheme. Until then, prepare the anus.

I agree 1000%

Sure it was fun to begin with. When it was working, it was a thing of beauty. He lost the fans in the end when he wouldn’t adjust while everything around him was adjusting to destroy what he had built.

What we have now isn’t fun to watch either, but there are other options (no pun intended).

PJ hated defense and ignored it completely.

You got source material to back this up, or is this more of your inherent PJ hatred coming forth again?

Maybe you missed PJ saying "I don't care if it's 2-0, as long as we win."
Or, after the 1998 national championship game loss, when his team coughed up 50-plus points, he said directly, "we will better on defense next year. I promise you."
He took over the defense in the spring.
It was a top 10 defense in 99.

He wanted a DC he didn't have to look over their shoulder every waking moment.

I don't give a flying öööö what he did at GA Southern. his best defenses at GT were his Death Marches. We all bitched about our D on a weekly basis under PJ. And Sewak and ST etc etc.

You still didn't answer the question. So GFY.
