How did we miss on Petrino?

Please,.................somebody with inside word................what was the reason for not interviewing him?

This one bothers me.

I suspect it goes something like this:

1. We didn't take our AD and a big booster to some anonymous meeting spot to offer him the job a month before we fired Gailey, ala Auburn.

2. Why would he be interested in a school that is not in the fourth tier academically?

Screw Petrino... he has Saban-like characteristics. And as a Falcons fan I dont like him anymore.

yes, because at Tech, every one is of noble character

don't see how that's really relevant. joe blow that lives in towers and sells pot to his roommate isn't as much a face of the institute as some one like cpj or ccg is/was.

--> thrilled he's not a jacket <--

Interesting. Somebody in my section in Towers sold pot out of his dormroom. True story. Made the place smell nicer if anything.

I tell you what, the more I hear about this guy and what went on at Flowery Branch, not to mention how he handled moving out of here, not meeting with players OR letting the assistant coaches who moved here to Atlanta to be part of his program know what was going on --How did we miss on Petrino?-- are you freakin' kidding me?

If it came down to the two I'd much rather hire back Chan Gailey than to have this disingenuous man in charge on the Flats.

Arkansas just became my least favorite team in the country. I just checked UGA's schedule for next season and they do not play the Hogs --else I might feel compelled to pull for Richt and company.

How do you hire this guy if you're Arkansas? 'I'd like to introduce to you a two-time deceitful back-stabbing liar, quitter, and our fifth choice --ladies and gentleman of Hog-Nation, I present to you ...Bobby Petrino.' :puke:

No thanks ...and good riddance.

Geeeez GT65, I sure wish you would not sugar coat everything and tell us how you really feel.

BTW good post! :laugher:

Whatever the reasons...and hindsight being 20/20...I'm glad we didn't.

Of course , anyone willing to take a midnight trip to Auburn to assist in the stabbing of Tuberville's back, should have shed somelight on the man's character, or lack thereof!

I'm just happy we got PJ.....and any other conversation about any other coach is just counterproductive!

I honestly don't blame Petrino at all.

Did you see that circus act going on Monday night?

I would have done the same thing.

I know I posted at least 3 times during the last 3 months that Petrino would "BEE" available. Why wasn't he considered?

How do you know we didn't have contact with him?

Anyone else catch the press conference? Seeing Petrino do that pig sooee dance made me feel a lot better. :laugher:
And then, DeAngelo's interview was just icing on the cake.

Petrino fights dogs?

If he had any control (or better yet, respect from the players on his team) they wouldn't have created the circus act Monday night.

He could've shut DeAngelo up a long time ago when he allowed him to lose a game singlehandedly (with 60+ yards of penalties on one drive), then put him back on the field in the same game, and didn't punish him otherwise. Do you think Belichik would put up with any of this sh!t? So yes, Petrino is largely to blame for what happened Monday night

Here's Petrino's coaching CV:

1983 Carroll Grad. asst.
1984 Weber St. Grad. asst.
1985-86 Carroll Off. coord./QB/WR
1987-88 Weber St.WR/TE coach
1989 Idaho QB coach
1990-91 Idaho Off. coord./ QB
1992-93 Arizona St. QB coach
1994-Nevada Off. coord./QB
1995-97 Utah St.Off. coord./QB
1998-Louisville Off. coord./QB
1999-2000 Jacksonville (NFL)QB coach
2001-Jacksonville (NFL)Off. coord.
2002-AuburnOff. coord./QB
2003-2006 Louisville Head coach
2007-Atlanta (NFL) Head coach
2007-Arkansas Head coach

He's made 14 employer changes in 24 years, a change less than every 2 years. Past performance is the most logical barometer of future action.

While it's inherently unfair to judge someone negatively simply because they perceive that a specific job move might improve their lot in life, the under the table discussions with Auburn Uber-Trustee Bobby Lowder and the outright lying backstabbing of Arthur Blank speaks quite elequently to Petrino's character (or, in his case, his blatant lack of same).

It's incredibly naive of Arkansas to think that when Petrino feels that the moment suits him best he won't do precisely the same thing to them.

We are much the better without Bobby Petrino.

Petrino has cemented his legacy as a classic "Seagull Manager."

Not to mention he's signed 3 contracts in the past 2 years.

• On July 13, 2006, Petrino signed a 10-year contract worth up to $25 million -- a staggering deal for a school of Louisville's modest football heritage and fan base. The day he signed it, Petrino vowed again that Louisville was home. He made a point of insisting that a $1 million buyout provision be put into the contract, putting his money where his dissembling mouth is.
"We did want to make a statement," the disingenuous drifter said that day about the buyout. "… I wanted to make sure everyone understood -- I know I've said it -- that this is where I want to be, where my family wants to be. But I want everyone to really believe it."

Pat Forde rips him a new one- http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=3151061&sportCat=ncf
