Sorry, but I don't know how to link a you tube video, but I often like to look at old GT football games.
I ran across one unintentionally that is labeled "10/9/1928 VMI vs Ga Tech" and if some folks can pull it up see what you observe.
- I was struck how the offense could set up to run a play right next to the boundary line. No hash marks I guess.
- I don't think refs called penalties then. Chop blocks, clips. I swear I saw a guy at least once throw a knee to the side of another player.
- on one play, one of the refs, either during or right before the play appeared to haul butt off the field! Beats me.
- at 09:05:42:28 I was kind off shocked by the size of our Band and the unis, considering it was 1928. It is just a very brief glimpse, but had not thought about the Band during those days.
- at 09:05:56:12 during a punt, a dog suddenly appears in the middle of the öööö field and everyone acts like it is nothing unusual! Like I said , during the play.
- and the fans in the stands, well it just looks odd. Many of them seem to be dressed like they would not be out of place at today's games. Shirt sleeves, etc. I was just under the impression men wore suits to events, regardless, back then. At one point it seemed like their was a guy in the stands jumping up and down like our super fan did at VT last year.
Just seemed odd in many ways. I dunno.
