I MAY have been wrong about Sims

Small sample size to be sure, and UNC didn't game plan for him, but I was wrong in saying Sims should never see the field as long as Yates was still playing error free ball. It's obvious that when Sims is protecting the ball and not making unforced errors he has a much higher upside. Pitt is going to be a test to see how far along he is in making the correct decisions but UNC showed a preview of what this offense can look like if they don't shoot themselves in the foot.
 
Sims has basically been drinking from a fire hose the last year+. He has the skill set. I think he'll get there. I can't remember being this enthused about a QB in a while at Tech.

I'll let Sims know that you may have been wrong about him. And I'll be sure to put "may" in air quotes.

He did a fine job of that Saturday. I believe he completed his last 10 passes
 
Sims was great; I hope people at least admit he is a great runner and helps that part of the offense. I also think he is a cool customer and will perform well in tight situations.

Still not sure how he will perform if a team can stack the box and force him to throw down the field; reading defenses, accuracy, and ball security are all work in progress.

We will have to see. But Yates was inconsistent on some short to midrange passes Saturday night. If he's can't nail those then it's better to go with the QB averaging 10 yards with his legs (4.4 last year) vs the guy averaging 1.5 yards.

Sims is obviously the better physical specimen. He's faster and has a stronger arm. Just needs to make good decisions.
 
Obviously Sims is taller than Yates. The snapper seemed to overcompensate though and was snapping it a bit high towards Sims head. Hope they work on this.

That was an issue last season messing up the mesh with Sims and our RB's

The timing and placement on his passes showed me that he has learned a lot since last yr

I think there was a 4th down and short where he put the ball on the RB in the left flat quickly, accurately and decisively, easy 1st down, saw what the D gave him and processed that into a quick accurate throw

On another pass play there was a deep out on the right, he saw the coverage and "threw the WR open into the correct window" - it was a big time throw made before the WR came out of his break, impressive stuff, high ceiling stuff, once your QB starts making those kind of anticipation throws, then the deep passing Game isn't a question of IF but when

Barring injury Teams on the back half of our schedule won't know what hit them

Get ready, CGC detractors, you're gonna be hearing the phrase "High Level" quite a few times over the remainder of the season

Good points; just want to see consistency.
 
How differently would we feel if that ball tipped at the line got picked and it was a closer game?

This was an example of the mustard that he puts on the ball turning into a completion instead of a pick at the line.

If he turned the ball over and lost the game for us, I would feel differently about him. I would say he's not ready and should sit until he becomes a better option than Yates.
 
He showed flashes of greatness as a freshman, just made freshman mistakes. He's still RAW but I see great potential and a will to win. He's incredibly athletic and you can't teach that.
 
I'm glad Jordan is on our team and he has already made a valuable contribution this year.

Once Sims got over his home crowd jitters and got healthy, he showed us what he can be. Comparison to a tall Joe Hamilton are back on the table. He's our starter moving forward.
 
We need to play Simms every game and then just expect to probably lose two or three games because of turnovers. Our "system" is not going to score on its own. Roll the dice, and don't get mad when the dice come up wrong.
