If Chan goes now

GTTerriffic,

Nothing to deep here, just my impression from your earlier remarks.

Happy New Year.

71Bee, some comments on New Years foods and other!

I am told eating the collards means you will have many green backs during the year. I am told two things regarding black-eyed peas. One is they represent luck for the new year, and another represents a lot of change (dimes, quarters, etc.) during the year.

My daughter was washing clothes today, and her husband told her she was not supposed to wash clothes on New Years day. He said the person's clothes that were washed would be washed out of life during the year. She continued to wash them, and told him she was washing his first.

Gee, I wonder where my daughter gets her hard-headedness!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">My take is you're making assumptions. It's your opinion that I'm very warm, whatever that means, and I'm really not surprised you didn't have a good explanation for how I'm "very warm."

Some might think I'm touchy. If so, that's ok by me. Yes, I'm not only touchy, but I'm pissed off. Not only at the game yesterday, but at some of the things on this board as well.

Happy New Year to you as well.

ahsoisee, being a South Georgia Redneck originally I knew the stories about the food but that is the first time I have heard about washing of clothes. I washed my best pair of overalls today so I guess I washed my miserable life away.

Yeah, the candidates were lining up for miles for this job last year. Let's look at the list:

1. Tom O'Brien - Supposedly DB's first choice, didn't want the job.

2. Mac McWhorter - Interim HC. Had to settle for a position coach job at Texas. No one else this side of West Georgia College and.or Villa Rica HS would consider him for a HC position.

3. Charlie Taafe - Got fired by the Citadel.

4. Ralph Friedgen - Sure he's everybody's favorite, but he ain't coming back.

5. Jimmy Robinson - The Bill Curry clone. GT pedigree, lifetime position coach.

So what coach is out there now, that wasn't out there last year.

Face it, GT is just not that desirable of a job. We're lucky that Chan wanted it. Now give him time to show what he can do.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">That is the list compiled by Dave Braine and not a list of interested and/or contacted coaches. We will never know the list of interested coaches. But I do wish we could go through that list right now and make some contacts.

Jerry, you are mistaken. But if you're man enough to take my diploma, my AT contributions, my season tickets, and my kids Tech wardrobe away, bring it on. Sure Tech deserves the "best", but my point is "the best" weren't beating down our doors for the job. To me that says we aren't a desirable job amongst the coaching fraternity. Why? Everybody can complain about Chan, but the best alternative they can come up with (of the pool that actually wanted the job) is Mac McWhorter.

And for thos Mac fans, his choice for OC wasn't BoB, it was Rip Scherer. Remember him?

And, why didn't the Boise State coach throw his name into the ring last year? You can name "potentials" all day long, but the fact is, none of these potentials were jumping up and down for the job when they had the chance.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Dr.B: Coaches don't beat down doors for other jobs. You did not see them beating down Florida's door either and I would say that it is a desirable job. Or Bama's, Georgia's, UCLA etc. etc. Coaches don't want their current school to know their looking for greener pastures. Thats why you always see quotes of "not interested" or "not contacted" and "I and my family are happy here and we have no plans to leave" etc. etc. As much as I can decipher it is a very subtle game. Almost like when you ask around about a girls you are interested in asking for a date. You want to know your chances before you ask. You have scouted out the field, looking the ones you are interested in and also any that may have inquired about you. Then you make your choice and make your offer.

IIRC, TO'B asked that academic requirements be lowered. Perhaps that was just thrown out as an excuse not to hire, but I remember it was said by someone.

Statelinejacket, you are only looking at a few of the candidates that became public to the fans. You have no idea how many other resumes had been submitted to Braine.

By the way, Mac was never a candidate, except in his own mind. Braine stated in print at the very outset, that no member of the current staff would be considered for the head coaching job. It was stated and made very plain.

Mac kept pushing for an interview and it became a problem because of the preparation for the bowl game. Some of the players wanted to meet with Braine to try and get Mac for the job.

In order for the team to continue its preparation for the bowl game without involving the feelings of the players, Braine finally relented and gave Mac an interview. He promised him he would not sign a new coach until after the bowl game.

Braine kept his word and signed Gailey after the bowl game. Yes, the committee and Braine was 99 and 44% sure Gailey would be the new coach, but Mac was pushing and something had to be done to keep the players from revolting prior to the bowl game. Mac was never a serious candidate for the job and was told that at the very beginning.

You can remove Mac's name from the list you compiled, he was never a candidate.
