Rodriguez is a complete asshat. Never should have ABANDONED West Virginia, which is what he did.
Christ, I hate stupid ass threads like these. Stupid question.
Its a stupid question. I swear our fan base is so ****ing fickle it sometimes makes me sick. as soon as we have some success we have a bunch of people worried about sustaining it. We are GT. We have just as much tradition at our school as Michigan. No ****, look it up. They have a bigger fanbase, I'll give you that. But GT is a great job. We have an extremely loyal fanbase, we're in the southeast, play in a major BCS conference, have as much tradition as any school except maybe Notre Dumb and we are in Atlanta. Read that last point again, because Atlanta is a HUGE selling point for a coach.
So outside of the simple fact that we don't need to worry about other college programs because we have a great program and we have the ability to pay a coach top dollar like Paul Johnson, not to mention that in PJ's case, we don't need to worry about the Pros calling either, and if he is leaving eventually there's no sense worrying about it now, Why is your question stupid?
Excuse the bump.
Exactly how is this somehow a stupid question? It's no fun to think about CPJ going somewhere else and it makes me want to throw up - but please do explain to me how wondering if a potential high-profile vacancy should be a cause for concern is stupid?
Are you denying that Bill Curry left Tech? Are you denying that Bobby Ross left Tech? Are you denying that O'Leary left Tech? Gailey was doing his damnedest to leave Tech for the NFL before we ran him off. How can it be unreasonable for a Tech fan to worry about a successful head football coach leaving?
On the other hand, I agree that there are certain things, some of which you mentioned, about Coach Johnson that perhaps make it less likely that he would leave anytime soon.

If Michigan got rid of their old coach who ran a pro style offense for a guy who had massive Success with a Spread Option Offense, and they fired him because the spread offense didn't work and they didn't like the coach, Why in God's name would Michigan then go and hire a spread triple option coach? That makes absolutely no ****ing sense whatsoever.
I hate stupid ass bumps like this. Stupid bump
Jesus Christ. Pay attention:Good question and good points. Let me respond with Three points.
1.) Its stupid to worry because you can't control a damn thing anyway, so at least have confidence in things you can't control and that confidence will spread. Support the program and don't let anyone tell you that we're second tier, because those days are over. That's how you change the identity of program is for fans to harbor the same confidence int he program as the leaders who are there.
2.) In the original posters question its absolutely stupid to worry about Michigan specifically. Why? Because Rich Rod isn't leaving UM, and if he's fired, then why would they replace him with another spread option coach? If they fire him they conceded that the Spread Option doesn't work here and we need to go back to Pro Style. So its absolutely silly to worry about Michigan
Bill Curry comes in, has success - See ya!
Bobby Ross comes in, has success - Buh bye!
George O'Leary comes in, has success - So long!
Of course we're ****ing worried about maintaining our success - the last three coaches that came in and gave us some level of success have taken off. Maybe if it wasn't a goddamn trend, we wouldn't ****ing worry about it? Do you think?
And tradition isn't everything to every coach. Of course we're Georgia Tech and we're in a BCS conference, but in most everyone's eyes, when you compare us to Michigan, they are the more premiere, big-time program - period.
And the question assumed that if DickRod was fired, it would be because of his poor reception combined with his recent alleged transgressions against the NCAA's sacred rules.
It's not completely unreasonable that Michigan would be interested in hiring a coach whose reputation is infinitely better and who showed he can come in and have instant success with his system.
Get a ****ing grip, it's not a dumb question, you're just on the ****ing rag again. Have a fresca and chill the **** out.
you should have read my follow up post before posting this garbage. I hate to tell you, but you're part of the problem. Its ok. Many of our fans have a hard time grasping what I laid out to GiveEmHellJackets. But its something every fan needs to grasp and you know what, we're better for it.
I'm sorry for coming over the top and sounding like an asshole, but I am very passionate about this topic and I've actually discussed this very topic with DRad, many of the Life Members of Gt donors, as well as other alumni and GTAA employees. Most everyone I talked to agreed. We are not that program. Time and success has healed those wounds and we need to think like we are a top team. So believe it!!
Because if you don't... who will?
2) As I said in the other post, the reason assumed for his firing - would be for his violation of NCAA rules coupled with his personality not sitting well with Michigan fans.
And you should have read my last post. I think we are very, very close to being that program. But the very prospect of it doesn't make it so. One year of success after nearly a decade of mediocre misery doesn't make us a destination school. It is up to CPJ to make us that school and it's perfectly reasonable to wonder whether that's what he wants to do or if it would be feasible for him to want to accept what's perceived as a higher profile job.
Its stupid to worry because you can't control a damn thing anyway
There's maybe 5 programs that could lure PJ away.
Agree 100% but easier said than done.
I guess that's why people are worried. I believe we do have one of the top 5 coaches in college football, and the secret it starting to spread.
Thanks for the inspiring post though, and I mean that. I see your point about positivity being necessary and worrying being counterproductive. If any one guy can change the "battered fan syndrome" at Tech, I think it's Coach Johnson.
Dude, what makes you think we are not that school right now? One year of success? Try almost 120 years of success, with 12 years of recent success and we weren't satisfied with that. Now we have a coach who by all means wants more from our team everyday than our fanbase. We are that team. DRad let it be known when he made PJ the highest paid coach in the ACC.
But in regards to how we are percieved nationally, which is how your prestige is determined, I think we need to show that we weren't a one-year-wonder of sorts by stepping back up in what would otherwise be a sophomore slump and hit this conference and those ****tards in Athens in the mouth again.
