Full agreement - I just hope Brent is up to the task of running the whole O. The jump from position coach to coordinator doesn't always work out, much like coordinator-to-HC.

Let's not forget, too, Brent is the run game coordinator already. So, he's getting further experience with game plans and what not.

I’m just hoping that Key’s attendance at the Saban School for Coaches Who Can’t Coach Good has made a real difference. Cause his time as UCF’s OC was terribad.

I have long suspected that Patenaude was never intended to be the long term answer, but rather a transitional guy. His salary seems to back that up. Honestly, we aren't an attractive job to an OC right now. You get to take over an offense without the personnel to do what you want, and the fans' expectations are unrealistic because of the million rushing yards and muh offensive efficiency the last coach had.

The fatuous comparisons between (a) being unacceptably mediocre (which we frequently were under CPJ) and (b) being held to a goose egg in 50% of the quarters we've played, are bizarre. Think about it... HALF of all quarters this year we couldn't even get a FG.

I have *never* seen Georgia Tech play so badly in every aspect of the game as last Sat. And I watched us lose to Memphis St in 1981 with my own two eyes.

On one hand our fans acknowledge the scale of our offensive transformation from the 3-O to something 21st Century and that we are both very young and decimated by injuries... On the other hand they call for the OC’s head and say he is hot garbage.

Which is it? [why not both gif] Coach Pat deserves a little rope until he can get a P5 caliber OL in place and a full season/offseason with an established starter at QB.

A useful thought experiment might be to go back and look at prior OCs.

We know PJ could have scored more with what we have, but the counterargument to that is (system).
Could Chan have scored more with what we have?
Could Fridge?
Could OBrian?

With the exception of '07, I don't think Chan's classes were far off in rankings from Paul's. And Patrick Nix, the world's worst OC, never got himself shut out. So, yea.

That was awful. IIRC, we had beaten Bama the week before and Memphis State had only won 1 game in 1980. Our kids probably practiced poorly thinking they were a Top 10 team and could roll over MSU. Totally embarrassing and only the first of a string of 10 straight losses that year.

Or viewed another way, how many nonP5 or FCS schools performed worse than we have against P5 opposition? Because our talent isn’t THAT bad unless all of the recruiting services are complete crap.

Yep, same here. I was really pissed that we broke the bowl streak. If there are so many bowls and anybody can get into one, why were we one of like 4 or 5 schools that had done it as many times in a row as we did?

And our streak of losing bowls started before CPJ. At one point in the late 90s/early 00s, we had the highest bowl winning percentage among schools with a certain number of bowl appearances, but we pissed that away hardcore under Gailey and Johnson.
