I'm Bananas 4 Monken

Since I go back a long way with Jeff, I'll add these:
When Monken was being considered for the South Carolina job last year (their then president had been superintendent at West Point), he told them directly he would not necessarily run the triple.
Years ago, sitting in PJ's offense, probably 23-24 years ago, I asked him who on his staff would make a good head coach one day. He said Monken without blinking an eye.

Monken would bring together all of PJ's positive attributes - game management, preparation, attention to detail, balls — and Clown's — player relationship, recruiting.

He is known as an option coach and knows the offense. But he has a OC at West Point (Brent Davis, also a really good guy) who calls the plays.
If - and that is a big If - they make a change and go with Monken, I suspect he can tap into his contacts and find a non 3O offensive staff.

Every ööööing GT grad who scored over a 650 on the SAT verbal (I got an 800) intuited that our next step after CPJ was to find an option/CPJ-disciple with some youthfulness and salesmanship. Not to go all-in on a salesman. We wasted 3 years chasing the "out-recruit UGA" pipedream, but it's not too late. Monken is right there. Right there. He doesn't need to be pure 3O. He just needs to have a sense for what works and how to play the GT job.

Jeff was here for 2 years, in which we won 20 games with talent not all that dissimilar to what we have now.

Why not?

I have nothing against him, but players head for the portal at the mention of his name, even if he promises not to run the 3O. I don't want to throw away the one thing Collins managed to accomplish for us is all. Plenty of good coaches around.

I refuse to believe that the CPJ tree and the current travesty are our only choices.

Jeff can coach, no doubt. We have no data to go on if we want to evaluate him separate from the TO, though. At least none that I know of.

Frankly, I don’t give a öööö. People said Dwyer and Bay Bay would run off too, but instead they stayed, beat UGA, won an ACC title, got back-to-back ACC OPOY awards, became a 1st round pick, etc.

And FWIW, Arizona cowered when their QB complained about the purported hiring of Ken N. They backed off of that hire, and now have set a school record for consecutive losses.

Monken is certainly not the only good coach we could go after, but based on the fact that our last search ended up with Geoff Collins as the best option, I’m not confident about the next one.

I don't think Dwyer and Thomas stay if the portal and free transfers exist. Collins has done good things for recruiting and probably makes this job more attractive this time around and gives us more options. I don't wanna go back, that's just me.

Kids are going to be ejecting from this program regardless. It’s gonna take years to clean up Geoff’s mess. The amount of dead weight he’s brought on and those remaining that would need a lobotomy to unwire his bullshit will take time. Go out and get the best coach you can, regardless of any other factors. Tech will need to start the greatest rebuild in the history of college football after he’s gone.

Monken is not a good coach. Stop bringing up his name in threads and discussions 10 years later. He gone and for good reason.
Yeah and the good reason is that he took a head coaching position at a school that was coming off consecutive losing seasons and he turned them into a semifinalist his first season there. After two more deep playoff runs and a 38-16 (.703) record, he went to another school that had losing seasons in 16 of the previous 17 seasons, and has won more games than anyone in the modern history of that program, going 56-42 (.571).
