Some of the stupidest tripe I've ever read. Reading this stupid shit, one would come to the conclusion that Georgia Tech never won a national championship in school history. I happen to remember 1990 vividly and yes, we "did what everyone else did" but we had really good athletes, coaching and we just did it better than everyone else.

Your "this has always been the case" is a damn lie and it frankly makes me sick that you're a Tech fan with this kind of a "man I'm so much smarter than everyone else; I can't understand why you guys don't all understand that" attitude and defeatist attitude. Seriously you can go screw yourself, dude.

Huh? There seems to be lots of evidence that recruiting is not random. I guess “humans do unpredictable things” is true, if that’s what you mean...?

2 top 25 seasons in a decade is exactly what we got with a genius x's and o's coach, so I guess it doesn't matter. O'Leary's teams had 4 or 5 top 25 finishes in a row, btw.

Yeah, I know we appreciate the heights that Johnson took us to and it was great but I believe O'Leary's standard is the first goal of Collins: get us recruiting at least top 30 every year (hopefully higher), finish in the pre/post top 25 regularly. It is going to be hard to beat Clemson and UGA if they are at their peak but if we have that top 25 base, then all it takes is a Joe Ham or equivalent and we can compete with them for a year or two.

Now, I think Collins has a vision for something greater but it will take that ambition and hard work to get us part way there and then see what is possible.

If I felt he needed discipline, I might have sent him to play under CPJ specifically for his disciplinarian approach. Certainly not the new guy. If I was going to provide him the best college experience, obviously Clemson. Stanford degree is worth more and it's an easier school with more women. An Ivy League degree is worth more than both and you don't have to work at all. The value in a degree is not in what you learn, it's in networking, for nearly every possible degree available. Even if he wanted to be an engineer, Clemson or Auburn is probably a better route because nobody cares where you went to school after your first job, and Clemson/Auburn have decent programs, and alumni willing to give you that first job.

Anybody who doesn't understand this is blinded by school loyalty. GT recruiting not only sucks, it's always sucked and always will suck until the school goes private, adds majors, and ups the ratio to 50:50. And spends a hundred million dollars on a Club Med for Football to compete with Clemson.

Where you would tell your son to go is irrelevant. Harvard isn't outrecruiting Georgia Tech for football players, so either most parents of actual players don't feel the way you do, or their kids are making their own choices.

No, we aren't coming close to beating Clemson without much better players. No amount of outsmarting them matters when we're so far behind them in recruiting. It's why PJ beat them once in his last six tries, and that was with Watson going down. Our offensive genius coach "outsmarted" them to the tune of 15.5 ppg and double digit defeats each of the last four years.

And some of us have been fans long enough to know that Collins is the common denominator in our two best classes this century. Paul Johnson finished in the top 25 three times at Tech, and two of those occurred with the players brought in from one of those classes.

Guess what beating UNC, NC State, Miami, Clemson, UGA, almost beating an undefeated FSU in the ACC Championship, then destroying previously ranked #1 Mississippi State in the Orange bowl did for us in recruiting?

Exactly. Recruiting is a skill. The ones who are good at are good at it wherever they go, maybe not as good as they would be elsewhere, but good.

It's not as dependent on wins and losses as people think. Syracuse is another good example. 10 win season last year and a current class rank of 64th with 20 commitments. We have a top 25 class coming off a mediocre season, going through a major transition, because we hired recruiters.

GT won with Freidgen at OC because he outsmarted opponents. Flat. To think otherwise boggles my mind.

We won with Friedgen because he was a hell of a coach on a team with outstanding players like Bobby Rodriguez, Shawn Jones, William Bell, Carl Lawson, Emmett "Speed" Merchant, Jerry Gilchrist, Greg Lester, Brent Goolsby, Mike Mooney, Joe Siffri, Kevin Battle, Jerimiah McClary, Coleman Rudolph, Marco Coleman, Calvin Tiggle, Darryl Jenkins, Billy Chubbs, Jerrelle Williams, Marlon Williams, Willie Clay, Eric Bellamy and Ken Swilling.

You're a frigging moron if you think we just 'outsmarted' everybody. We didn't outsmart shit in Virginia or against Georgia or against Nebraska...we lined up and smashed them in the mouth over and over and just beat their asses.

Get real. Sure Fridge was an excellent OC, but having skill players the likes of Jones, Bell, Rodriguez, Merchant, not to mention Jenkins, Lavin, Mooney, Siffri, and that stout defense is what won us a national championship ...we had players.

I guess time will tell. So many are all hyped because we have the 25 th ranked recruiting class although no one has signed papers yet. When all the dust has settled, it will be interesting to see where we land in the rankings and how much better it is than our history. Then, comes the matter of can we coach them and can we manage a game? After Saturday, that has to be a legitimate question/concern.
